All I know about this book is there is a plus symbol in the title. It was a little confusing to find in the library catalog

here is the link:

I noticed the library is down to four circulating copies. Please let Heather know if you need help obtaining a copy.

Thirteen members huddled around the community room tables at the local pub Oniell's and our first meeting at a restaurant went went well. It's always fun to shake things up and try new things, but we are back to the library next month.

Book talk:
Many of us focused on the "litigation" within Alex + Ada. It's not usual for the comic books that we read to mention government policy and procedures so much, and it was a welcome surprise for a few of us.

The technology introduced in the book is not here yet, but we all felt that artificial intelligence and social networking programs are catching up fast. It was brought up that Facebook has already announced new altered reality glasses that will allow you to see the comments of other users wherever you are.

A few of us had trouble enjoying the story while it involved simplistic art. It was also noted that the standard drawing style only emphasized how Alex perceives the world and himself.

Is Alex more of a robot than Ada? The debate was over whether Alex wasn't relatable or if he exemplifies the tired jaded citizen who wants the world to make all his choices for him.

Of course when you have the trope of a sex slave robot, we are going to have the trope of the non threatening male that must balance this story out. Although how someone had time to think about sex with all the political turmoil in the book is hard to believe. We agreed that Alex was strangest wimp, and when your grandmother buys you a sex toy you shouldn't complain.

In an age of comic stories that go on forever with prequels and sequels and spinoffs, we all loved the fact that it was only THREE BOOKS. Yes, believe it or not, you can craft a great story in three skinny graphic novels.

The Report Card
The book's grade for the evening stymied at 7. Mediocrity to mild bemusement abound. Here are the numbers.
7.5, 7, 7, 5, 6.5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 7.5, 5, 5.5, 7,

The Talk About the Book Club
Due to the casual and private nature of a book club, I added that this book club has chosen to use Goodreads so that it can be open to new members, but allow privacy for those who just want to talk about a good book and nothing more.

It's common for book clubs to be exclusive and not advertise, but this book remains open and will advertise to promote graphic novel literacy for those who just want a good book suggestion. Whether you come to the meetings or read at home, I am just glad you decided to make reading a routine in your life.

Richelle (ladychaosss) | 3 comments I love the summary here for the meeting! I couldn't make it it read the graphic novel. I had a lukewarm response, but had no idea it was a 3 book series, I like that.

Richelle (ladychaosss) | 3 comments Oh dear, I can't figure out how to edit my comment from within the Goodreads app. Sorry for the terrible grammar, I meant I couldn't make it but read the graphic novel. What is the next comic for next month?

Thanks for commenting!

Next month we will be discussing Wonder Woman: The True Amazon by Jill Thompson.

It will be at 2pm at the Lomas Tramway Library on Saturday June 3rd.

Richelle (ladychaosss) | 3 comments Awesome, thanks!
