Coming 1st Jan 2017!! Excited!!??? 2010, 2012, 2014 and now 2017! A 3 year gap...thats not fair! But better late than never. I made a similar thread 3 years back for the 3rd series and back then this group was filled with enthusiastic members. Now it feels like a ghost town. Lets see if people reply to this.

Paula I'm hoping to get TV reception in time to watch this. I'm a fan of all things Sherlock Holmes. From the old B&W to the most recent incarnations.

Chavala | 2 comments SOO excited for the new season!! I was disappointed with the first episode though. Although there were deeper themes which I appreciated. I LOVE BBC Sherlock.

Hmm so now the series is over, i know i am commenting late as i dont use much of goodreads nowadays. The first episode was OK, the 2nd one was superb and the third one was absolutely disappointing. I was expecting something different from the new villian, expected sherlock, john, lestrade to be in action in LONDON ...not trapped on some damn island playing games. But its over now....and god knows if we will ever get another series. Who knows? we might get one.....maybe 3 or 4....5 years later. Lets hope for the best.

Sian (sianmeakins) Series 4 was a little disappointing from a Sherlock Holmes point of view because the stories of Sherlock were solved originally by starting with a case, him and john running around solving it, then cleverly solving the case.

Where as in this series they did not do that. The episodes were about his life, johns life and apart from the 2nd episode where they did solve a crime: the series is not your normal Sherlock outlay, they are just showing that he was intelligent and his backgrounds. If it was not a Sherlock themed program, I think the plot for this series could have been a good plot for another type of drama film.

For me Sherlock is interesting because we did not know about him, he was a mystery himself and when he is explained in this series it did not feel quite right.

But I hope if they do more series that now they have explained all the characters that they will return to solving crimes. Cumberbatch and Freeman play Sherlock and Watson so well. it would be a shame if they stopped.

The 3rd episode reminded me of the movie Die Hard 3(1995) where bruce willis's and Sam Jackson's charactersdo exactly as dictated by the German terrorist. I think there have been many such stories where the Villain compels the main characters to take some actions out of blackmail. So that is why i was extremely disappointed by the 3rd episode.

I liked the 2nd episode because there were lots of twists ans turns throughout the story and a big surprise at the end.

Sian (sianmeakins) I completely agree, lets hope next time, if there is a next time, that it will be back to being sherlock :)

Papanate | 7 comments Resurrecting this thread -

I was annoyed and hugely dissapointed with Season 4. Most of it
was nonsense - Sherlock has a 'Sister'??? right....Sherlock has all
these emotions to be manipulated?? right. IMO they were just
trying too hard to be clever for clevers sake. Also IMO I think they
screwed the pooch on the series - maybe even on purpose I don't
know. But I doubt they'll get funding for a 5 season.

Laura | 3 comments I agree with everyone's opinions on series 4 - I feel like the writers thought that they needed more action and so flung so many in, when actually all people wanted was another Holmes series solving a case in his usual manner.

It was good, yes, but in my opinion unnecessary and too drawn away from Holmes' crime solving!
At the end if the day I suppose, the BBC created the show to create a twist on the original Conan Doyle novels so arguably, they were free to do what they liked with the plot (within reason!).

Sarah Kauthen (skauthen) | 59 comments *steeples fingers* I have not borne witness to Sherlock, Series 4. Should I watch it or should I choose to live in ignorance? Anyone who's seen League of Gentlemen, Series 3 knows what I'm talking about.

Sarah Kauthen (skauthen) | 59 comments Yesterday, someone said in my ear that there's a new season coming with a new writer. No idea where they got their information. All the same, I straight up love Mark Gatiss but no person is perfect all the time and someone needs to step into this thing and give it a shake. And that's me being very... measured and generous.

Why live in ignorance? Just watch the 4th series right away and judge it yourself. I would personally love the 5th series as long as they don't turn sherlock holmes into James Bond.

Perhaps a bit late for that…
