Tate Reads When a book doesn't immediately catch your interest, how do you push forward? Or, DO you push forward? Do you give up on the book? I want to finish this book but I need help staying motivated.

* Jenn * I push forward. I tell myself I HAVE TO KNOW THE ENDING. I've never been one to give up on a story. However...Have you read other Palahniuk books? I ask because I have the same issue with all of his books. I find myself having to re-read whole chapters because I can't seem to stay focused on his writing. I've tried repeatedly to get hooked on this author, all I hear are great things about him. But I've given up. I currently have 6 of his books: Choke, Invisible Monsters, Haunted, Lullaby, Diary, & Rant. Haunted being the last book of his I bought. I never finished Diary nor Haunted. They are on my bookshelf...waiting to be pick up for the gagillionth time (because I WILL finish them). My favorite...from what I remember, is Lullaby & Invisible Monsters...but if you asked me what they are about...I wouldn't be able to give you much detail.

That's the thing, he's my FAVORITE author. Rant is my all time favorite book. Invisible Monsters blew my mind. Lullaby terrified me in the best way. Maybe I'm growing out of him? In any case, I think I'm definitely going to push through!

Lizze Delgado Well, I think Diary is one of the worst books I've ever read, so I can't offer you any advice but to throw it down a deep well and go find something better ;) If you like him you may enjoy Bret Easton Ellis. He usually goes very dark, but one book of his, Lunar Park, is less realistically dark and more dark fantasy/horror. Know what I mean? Nobody dies of a heroine overdose but things do get a little paranormal and psychologically horrific. It's very good.
