Brina Tender and Delicate and I will be reading Paula by Isabel Allende as we both have it on our tbr. If you enjoyed Island Under the Sea or you would like to read more Allende, feel free to join in.

What a great introduction to the history of the Allende family! Isabel's paternal side of her family was very disheartening, dramatic and scandalous. I love how the story is discussing both the past and present, blended flawlessly. Allende really has a way with words, her descriptions really make me feel the emotions being experienced during this time in her life. I am enjoying the strong culture as her family resides all over the world. I am a nurse so the aspect of disease and recovery are always and interest for me. I've never heard of porphyria. I am interested to see if her daughter overcomes this tragedy.

Brina The library sent me the Spanish version of the book which is wonderful because it's Allende's first language but not mine, although my second. Unless my husband translates the parts I'm iffy on, I will have to put this book on hold and it's a shame because I was looking forward to it having read Allende's other memoir last year. Hope to read later in the year.

Tender&Delicate (daughterofsarah) | 11 comments Oh no Brina! I'm sorry to hear that. I hate when I wait long for a book or a movie and it ends up being the wrong one (dreadful). Funny, I used to read plays and novels in Spanish years ago, something I hopefully can return to someday. This is a wonderful memoir. . I am looking forward to reading her fiction novels. I should be done with this by Sunday/ Monday. Let me know if there are any other books you would like to read together this month, I don't mind changing the discussion.

Brina I have a pile at home from the library although none are AAHF. Many are classics for a different group. Also getting Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's short stories the next time I get to the library.
