Christopher (chrisrow83) | 4 comments I charge $1.50 per 1,000 words. Contact me for a custom order.

I've read over 930 books in the past five years. You don't read that many books without learning to pick out what makes stories work. Additionally, I practice critical reading and have studied creative writing. With two novels under my belt, I'm confident I can pinpoint any problems your manuscript has. My feedback is honest, direct, and constructive. I believe in both tough love and encouragement. As a writer myself, I know how much work you've put into your novel and I won't waste your time. I will read most genres.

Tell me what areas you struggle with and I will give it special attention.

If I know of an online article, videos, or free classes that might benefit you, I will give you a link.

I might mark a few grammatical errors but I am not a proofreader. If your manuscript has a lot of errors, I will let you know but can't fix them for you.

Here are a few of the things I will be examining:
Plot structure and pace
Character development
World building
Plot holes
Dialogue problems
Scene structure

Favorite genres:
Science Fiction
LGBT Fiction & Romance
Horror
New Weird

Gerald Nicks | 2 comments Hello. I am brand new to Goodreads and to this group so please forgive me if I'm doing anything wrong.
I am seeking another Alpha reader for a new 88k word manuscript. I would like to get feedback and advice on the main aspects that make a good story/book: plot & plotholes, character development, pacing, etc. Fiction novel I think?
Thanks very much.

Hi Gerald,
I'm a qualified editor who offers manuscript assessments. I will read through your manuscript and assess it for issues with plot, pacing, characterisation, sentence structure and flow. I then create an in-depth report on my findings so that you are able to see exactly what works and what needs improvement within your story.
If you would like to discuss your manuscript further, please feel free to contact me either via Goodreads or my direct email whitediamondedits[at]gmail.com
Best wishes
Jacqui

I charge $20-$35 depending on the length of your book. I charge $10-$15 depending on the length of your short story. I have been a book blogger, reviewer, and bookstagrammar for 4 years. I have reviewed more than 100 books. I will answer any questions you have regarding the manuscript. You can choose to have both comments in your manuscript and a report with my feedback and suggestions, or either of them.

You can read more details regarding my service and testimonials here:

message 28: by Maddie (new)

Maddie | 1 comments I’m offering paid beta reading services.

I have my bachelor’s degree in English and am currently an editorial intern at a small press.

My area of expertise is speculative fiction—an umbrella that includes fantasy, science fiction, horror, magical realism, and all things fantastical.

Other areas of interest:

Sapphic/Lesbian Fiction (of any spice level)

YA

Video Game/Visual Novel Scripts

I have a solid handle on the tropes of romance and romantasy. I'm happy to beta low spice m/f and m/m stories, but if what you have is high spice or erotica, I am not a good fit for you. I'm not your target audience, and there are things your reader might love that will simply baffle me.

I can help with plot holes, word choice, pacing, flow, dialogue, and characterization/character development. My beta reading tends to be more extensive than most, and can border on developmental editing advice. You’ll receive line notes, as well as a beta report.

A warning; I can be a little blunt, but never mean. I don’t sugarcoat critique or sandwich it between compliments to make it easier to swallow—but I’m not going to torch your work with a flamethrower either. I also make sure to give praise where praise is due!

I’ve seen concerns about beta readers not actually reading the work and instead running it through AI. I share those fears about AI’s impact on both human creativity and the job market for writers and editors. I promise I won’t feed your work to the demon.

My rate is 0.0012 cents per word, or $1.20 per thousand words. That might seem steep at first glance, but consider this: if I beta read an 80,000-word novel, leave line notes, and write up a beta report, that’s likely around seven and a half hours of work. At my rate, that comes out to $96 total, or an hourly wage of $12.80. I genuinely love doing this, but it does take time, focus, and effort. I’m happy to provide thorough feedback, but I also need to be compensated fairly for the work involved.

Drop me an email at m.e@madelineerb.com to inquire about my current schedule, and if your work is a good fit for me.

You can find a few testimonials here: https://www.reddit.com/user/paidbetar...
(I tend to work through reddit. Am thinking about starting a fiverr, but I really hate that they take 20% from workers *and* charge customers a 5% "service fee". )

message 29: by Emma (new)

Emma (readwithemmalou) | 2 comments Hi, authors! I'm Emma, a beta reader and sensitivity reader.

I specialize in fiction (especially fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, magical realism, and low-spice romance), and non-fiction (especially memoir, history, and self-help). I also love working with Own Voices stories about disability and chronic illness.

As far as sensitivity reading goes, I can read for the following topics:

- Religion: Catholicism, evangelical Christianity, general Christianity, religious deconstruction, conversion experiences

- Disability and chronic illness: general chronic illness, chronic pain, chronic fatigue (ME/CFS), POTS and dysautonomia, mast cell disorders, Lyme disease, mobility aid use, COVID precautions

- Mental health: anxiety, depression, OCD

My rates are $30 per 10,000 words. To learn more about my services, see my portfolio and testimonials, and contact me, check out my website: https://www.emmarobbinseditorial.com/

I can't wait to help you make your writing shine!

I’m Sara, an undergraduate in Language and Literature with 3+ years of freelancing experience as a beta reader.
I mainly work with romance (second chance, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers), dark romance, fantasy, sci-fi, thrillers, and paranormal fiction. I especially enjoy character-driven stories with strong emotional arcs and clear motivation.

Some authors I’ve enjoyed include Jason Rekulak, Stephen Graham Jones, Colleen Hoover, Libba Bray, Grace Draven, and Trisha Wolfe.

My feedback is honest, in-line, and reader-focused. I highlight pacing, character impact, clarity, and where engagement works or drops, along with overall impressions from a real reader’s perspective.
