Would the Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan be considered retellings? I see some of his other books in the link provided, but not those.

Hmmm, I've only read one (maybe two...) of the Percy Jackson books. I'm not sure I'd call them "retellings" because they are their own stories but they have well-known mythological characters in them.... So does that make them retellings?

Think about Cinder; it's still a story about a girl who is treated poorly by her step-mother and step-sisters, she goes to the castle and meets the prince, etc. But the story is changed in that Cinder is a cyborg, the setting is futuristic, there is an evil queen, and so on. Basically the same story but with a completely different spin.

Are the Percy Jackson stories based on other myths?

I really don't know. I've read a couple, but it's been a long time. Unless someone has a definitive "yes", I'll just stick them under YA if I read them. I'm trying to read (mostly) my own books this year, so anything I own that I can stick in a challenge category is a bonus. :)

Okay, I'll take 'em. Read this little article about what the various events in PJ and the Lightning Thief are based on:
