Mae (birdsinflight) | 34 comments I just finished The Swimmer by Joakim Zander, which is his first with character Klara W., who shows up in The Believer. I enjoyed reading The Swimmer. It was espionage and detailed globe trotting, some in the very cold pre-Xmas Archipelago, engaging format and the author writes very well. I'm up for The Believer!

Thanks for the recommendations. Sounds intriguing. I enjoy the action of espionage and globe trotting.

Viveca Stens popular novels come to life in "The Sandhamn Murders", a perfect mix of Nordic crime & the beautiful surroundings of the outer Stockholm archipelago.
Stars: Jakob Cedergren, Alexandra Rapaport, Anki Lidén ....2010-2015, five seasons.....

New to us and very good ......90 mins each.

Fiona | 86 comments Just finished Rupture by Ragnar Jonasson - having read Snowblind previously I will have to back and read the book(s) between these two. As with Snowblind it's an easy enough read

Mae (birdsinflight) | 34 comments I just received The Believer by Joachim Zander. However, will read the Glass Devil by Helene Tursten, first as this also arrived. Because you guys were reading Who Watcheth by Tursten.. I started at her first ( Detective Inspector Irene Huss) and then read the The Torso (so so). Also read Zander's The Swimmer. All of 'em! Back to it!

The tv series is available on dvd from MHz Networks Home Entertainment. The first 3 episodes were released way back in 1998. We're fortunate here as our library has copies of the complete series. If you can't access this at your local library........there's always amazon.

Mae (birdsinflight) | 34 comments Reading The Believer. 2/3 through. It is excellent. Zander follows a similar format as in The Swimmer, with different characters, different times, different places. There are two strong female leads (one is Klara W from The Swimmer) and a young male. Very intriguing, timely writing. Really enjoying this author, thanks for selecting Zander!

Mae (birdsinflight) | 34 comments Just started Mind's Eye by Hakan Nesser based on comments here, and looking forward to this! A bit out of sync with the group, but I like to start at their first efforts and work my way forward if possible. Other discussion above...I think when I'm finished with this I'll go to Snow Blind by Ragnar Jónasson. I've a grand stack of books, sitting here in front of me...back to it!

Mae, hope you enjoy Nesser's series VV....the mystery of where the books are set is fun and the characters really grow on you. There are issues with this series of 10 Van Veeteren books! They may appear with different names depending on where published. The VV series is on DVD also and quite a nice watch.
His series Barbarotti, I have not found translated yet.
His two stand alones I really recommend......
The Living and the Dead in Winsford Håkan Nesser, July 2,2015. Set in Exmoor.
A Summer with Kim Novac. 1998/2015.

NEWS: The books, due out in summer 2017 and individually entitled Death of an Author, Dear Agnes and Samaria, are set in an undefined country somewhere in northern Europe, where Nesser has placed many of his stories. The three films share the same psychology and narrative structure, dealing with the problems of escape, with dark hidden secrets destined to surface — and with the concepts of guilt, revenge and atonement. The films will all be in English with additional British and American casting announcements to come.

Fiona | 86 comments Finished Cursed by Thomas Enger - first book that I have read from this author. Relatively easy read and although I think some if the story will have been spoilt for me by reading out of order will go back to read earlier Henning Juul books. Plus the ending makes you hope the next in the series is published soon !
