I was really frustrated with Midnight Tides when I read it too. After 4 books and meeting characters I loved we are suddenly somewhere else and nearly all new characters.
I came to like the book by the end, but it took awhile. Unfortunately I didn't do anything special. I just kept reading and eventually I started enjoying it. It probably helped that we were only doing 3-4 chairs reach week and that I was reading other books at the same time.
I will say that book 6 was my favorite in the series, so it's worth pushing through IMHO.

I felt the same and I just pushed through Midnight Tides to get to The Bonehunters (which is fantastic).
thanks guys, i have now powered through it and actually enjoyed it after about 40 - 50% onto the bonehunters now which i will buy tomorrow or perhaps get the kindle one tonight i dont knowI think it was trull that put me off the book by the way, i just could not get to grips with him.
thanks for the help!

this is my first post on goodreads and i wanted to see if anyone had this issue and how they got around it if they did.
I dont know if this is the right place to say this but there are no spoilers here, i picked midnight tides as the book i am talking about as this is where i am up to.
I found the malazan books probably mid way through last year and fell in love with the straight away.
i read through the first 4.5 in about 3 months but when i got to midnight tides, i was just jaded, i couldnt carry on reading them, i ended up switching to the black company (3/6) and the lost fleet (9/11) and have just now been able to come back and get into midnight tides again (i had to restart the book)
Although i love the writing style, it is one where I have to think /concentrate /reread constantly. so can be draining in my opinion aspecially when reading all 18 ish novels.
i suppose my mistake was not finding the books earlier and therefore being able to read one yearly as i am with the stormlight novels.
my question is, did anyone else have this issue? how did you get around it? i really want to finish these but dont want this to happen again
thanks
