War and Peace, baby. I know that there's a bunch of us out there who are planning on reading it this year, so let's tackle this behemoth together!
Ok girls, I think we left enough time for people to join you, if you want you can go to the organization thread to talk specifics! Of course you can also wait a few days to see if more are interested!
Hi fellow bookworms! My name is Sara. I'm from Egypt and I'm a student in Alexandria faculty of medicine. This is the first time I join an online book club and I hope I have a fun experience with you all and I hope we become good friends :D. Since I'm still new to this so I hope somebody introduces me to the rules here and what is find your body.Thank you all :D
Hi Sara! We are a quite well organized group and have several topics here to help you like this one. When you're on the first page of the group, all the important topic have a small star on the left and are always on the top of the list, so people can easily find them if they look.
Nice to meet you Sophie! Now I understood a few things about this group and it seems really interesting. I'm so glad I'm a part of it and I'm also very excited about buddy reads!
Hi all :D. So I just started my mid-year vacation and I want to start a new book. I'm looking for a buddy to read Red queen by Victoria Aveyard. thank you!
Thanks for you message Sara, I added it to the second post. Don't hesitate to tell you're looking for a buddy in the book topic: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
It's been months since anyone did a buddy read, and since I thought it went so well for War and Peace, I was wondering if anyone wanted to join me for another 1000+ page read: The Count of Monte Cristo. Any interest?
I might be interested hear it's an excellent book. Right now I have quite a few books out on loan from library and more on the way. So I can't start right away but I will see if if I can get it from library and work it in. It's 52 hours in audio so it will take some time! ;)
Also most admit I don't have a lot of classics under my belt so it's a bit of an experiment for me not sure I will be able to see it thru or not.
Cool, we can have our buddy read discussion on the book thread. We were pretty laid back with our group read for War and Peace, and I thought that worked pretty well.
I feel like discussing The Broker by John Grisham with a buddy or 2. Does anyone want to join in the fun? I was thinking August 1st would be a great start date!
Would anyone be interested in a buddy read for One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez? I'm planning to read it for the magical realism prompt and wondered if anyone else is thinking about reading it for that category?
I've had it on my TBR for years but I'm not sure I feel up to it! Maybe if several people join you I'll let myself tempted as with War and Peace ;)
I've had it on my TBR for ages too, Sophie. I've always been a bit intimidated as I know it has a reputation for being quite a difficult read, but I read Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez this year which I loved so I feel a bit more motivated to tackle One Hundred Years of Solitude now.
When were you planning on reading it? I'm going on holiday in two weeks and am planning a few light reads, so maybe I'll be in the mood for something more difficult in August!
If we do it in August, I'd definitely be in on it. I've always thought I should read Marquez but was never motivated to. I've been thinking the magical realism would be a good way to push myself to read him. But I'm reading the topics in order this year, and I'm currently a bit behind, so I have like eight books before I get to magical realism. (Insert grimace emoji) But even if you read it sooner, it would be nice for the discussion when I get around to it.
Bryony wrote: "Would anyone be interested in a buddy read for One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez? I'm planning to read it for the magical realism prompt and wondered..."I would be willing to give this a try in August!
Great, I'm looking forward to reading along with everyone. Shall we start at the beginning of August, or is later in the month better?
I just checked the topics list and the magical realism prompt is for week 33, which I think will be the week beginning 14 August. Does that sound okay as a start date?
I am interested in reading One Hundred Years of Solitude also for a buddy read in August! It's been sitting on my bookshelf for several years and I was planning on reading it this year! I also planned on reading it last year...
I would also like to join the buddy read for One Hundred Years of Solitude! It's on my TBR for this year.
I'm also interested in joining. The magical realism prompt is one of the only ones I have remaining. I was considering The House of the Spirits but it might be more fun to read with others. I'm going to try to listen to this on audiobook during my commute to work (sometimes that makes a tough or long book easier to get through; it also makes the commute more bearable).
I am looking for a buddy to read Rebecca. I don't have a start date as I have to get this one from the library. My only constraint is I want to read it this year.
Is anyone interested to doing a buddy read of Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King and Owen King? It doesn't come out until September 26 but the hold list at the library is already growing! I'd be ready to start as soon as my copy comes through.
Ali wrote: "I am looking for a buddy to read Rebecca. I don't have a start date as I have to get this one from the library. My only constraint is I want to read it this year."I would love to read Rebecca with you Ali! I have it on my ATY list to read by years end. Let me know when you are interested in starting since I already have the book on my kindle.
If anyone in the world hasn't read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yet, I'd like to find a buddy to read it with!
Hi all,Is anyone interested in buddy reading a Court of Wings and Ruin? I really need the motivation and have to read and return it to my local library by the 7th of September :) thanks!
I was going to see about jumping in on the buddy read of One Hundred Years of Solitude/Gabriel García Márquez. I started it at the beginning of July and have only made it to page 64 so maybe reading it with a group will get me motivated to finish it.Where do the buddy reads post?
Jillian, the buddy read posts will be done on the One Hundred Years of Solitude page in the A-Z shelves. Look forward to having you along!
Hey Tracy! I'm sorry I just saw this, but I'm game! I just put Rebecca on hold at the library. I should have it in a week or so.
Ali wrote: "Hey Tracy! I'm sorry I just saw this, but I'm game! I just put Rebecca on hold at the library. I should have it in a week or so."Sounds good Ali, just let me know when you get it. A week or so sounds perfect as I'm just finishing up two books that I'm about half done with. I should have them wrapped up by the time you get your book.
Tracy wrote: "Sounds good Ali, just let me know when you get it. A week or so sounds perfect as I'm just finishing up two books that I'm about half done with. I should have them wrapped up by the time you get your book."Will do!
Would anyone be interested in a buddy read for Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. It's a bit of a doorstep (most editions are around a thousand pages), and so I thought if anyone else has it on their TBR it might be a good choice for a buddy read.

Please read the Info, rules and FAQ topic first
Here's how this topic is going to work:
★ Post a message to find a buddy, like: I'm looking for someone to read War and Peace with, is anyone interested?
★ If you have a time constraint, please state it, like:
I'm reading in order and want to read this book for week 13, so that's between the 30 January and 5th February, or
I'm getting it from the library next week and will only have 3 weeks to read it.
Some people won't be able to meet this constraint, so it's better they form another group. Of course you can be flexible, but we don't want to get all excited about a buddy read and then realize it's not going to be possible because of schedule problems.
★ Your message can also include indications about your reading speed, like
I don't have much time to read during the week, so I'd prefer a small amount of pages to read per day, or
I'm a quick reader and have a lot of time on my hands so a 200 pages per day goal doesn't scare me.
This will allow your potential buddies to have a glimpse of the effort they're going to have to put to read with you.
★ You can leave as much time as you want for people to consider joining you before moving to the Organization topic. But of course if you have a time constraint, don't wait too long ;)
★ Please be serious about committing to the buddy reads, it's really frustrating to count on someone who's never there!
★ I'm going to update the second message of this topic with requests and groups already formed, so you can know without browsing all the messages which books are read by who and when.
★ After the group is formed, please go to the Organization thread to discuss the details, how much pages you want to read, when you want to start, how you want to communicate, etc.
Please, do not start organizing your group in this thread so buddy requests don't get lost!
If you have any questions about the general stuff of buddy reads, don't forget the topic Info, rules and FAQ is here to help you!
