There are normal targets and moving targets here.

I shrugged. "Yeah, sort of. That was kind of the first thing that made me realize I was a child of Apollo."

I twisted a bracelet on my wrist and it sprang into a birch wood bow, complete with a quiver of blunted arrows.

"We used to go to an archery range a lot; me and my family. I think the twins were excited just to be out there with me."

I sighed sadly. "They were pretty good...for mortals."

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I grinned. "Hey, we've all got to start somewhere!"

I reached into my quiver and pulled out a few arrows, lining them all up on the string.

I lifted the bow up to my cheek and drew back the string. Then, with expert precision, I let the arrows fly; one after the other. As soon as the first arrow hit the target, it easily pierced the wood as if it was merely styrofoam. The arrow thudded a good inch into the tree behind the target, split down the middle by the other two moments later.

I stared down at my arm. I wasn't that strong was I? Whelp.

I jogged over to the tree, yanking what remained of my arrows out of the bark. "Sorry." I muttered, pressing my palm to the trunk.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I yanked another splintered shaft from the tree with a frown. "What? Oh um yeah. I'm most comfortable with a bow, but if I have to I can also use throwing knives."

I glanced up at Anna. "You? What's your favorite?"

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

((Ack! Don't worry it's fine!))

I nodded. "That's cool I guess." I walked back towards my distance marker. "What got you started with the bow?" I asked. "And how come you're so good?" I added with a wink.

I felt my lips twitch into a smile. "For Apollo? It's supposed to be right?"

I hooked another arrow onto my bow and shot it over the line of trees. If I'd timed it correctly, it would glance off one of the rapid targets in the moving-target zone, and come flying back.

A few moments later, the arrow flew through the trees and thudded into the back of the target with such force it swung around like a slingshot.

Bullseye.

I grinned at Anna. "You see? I certainly could not have done that with merely a few months of practice. That kind of thing is what I call natural."

I cocked my hands on my hips and beamed (no not literally) proudly at my accomplishment, while the target continued to sway wildly.

A tiny part of me was rolling its eyes, muttering, Show off.

I told myself to shut up.

Xerinus | 48 comments I walked past the archery range, hood drawn tightly around my face to hide myself from the rain, someone was there shooting, they were pretty good, noteworthy.

I walked over to them.

"howdy," I said, so that I was sure that they noticed me.

message 8: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments the girl seemed to be startled by my sudden appearance, I looked at the spot where the arrow had thudded into the center of the target. Definitely noteworthy. I thought to myself

"Oh hey! I haven't seen you around, you new?" she asked me. I guess she had seen my amazed expression as i looked at the target because she then snorted a little and said "Well thanks, that's the first perfect shot I've hit all morning!"

It felt odd to have started the conversion, I didn't really know what to say except "yeah i'm new, I'm Gareth, i found this place a couple of days ago, I'm the new Nemesis guy." did it sound awkward? did it sound arrogant? I wasn't sure if it had come out the way i had meant it to sound.

message 9: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments "Your actually the first person that iv'e talked to that wasn't giving me the tour." I said, giving a small smile.

I stopped to think for a second, i looked at the bow hanging from the girls fingers. very beautifully carved I thought as I looked at the patterns on the body of the weapon.

I started again with one of the two questions that I could think of. "So, you know my name, whats yours?"

message 10: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments "I'm from Texas, but before you says something, that's not why I say howdy, not everyone from Texas says it." I said wondering if she even knew about that stereotype.

"I just say howdy because I find it more fun to say than a simple hello." This seems like someone that I should be friends with I thought to myself

message 11: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments "Thanks, my dad told me that mom 'made' my eyes special," I sighed, it hurt to think about my father "that they are unbiased eyes."

I looked down at my feet and shuffled them slightly "I still don't know what he meant,"

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

((You just told a guy he had pretty eyes.))

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

((Lol guys. Wow))

Destini~Never give up.~ (thunderstorm445) ((lol))

message 15: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments I looked a her for a moment, slowly scanning her person, but my eyes kept being drawn back to her bow.

the carvings were so intricate that it seemed as though they had been grown into the wood.

"where did you get that bow? it's beautiful."

message 16: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments "Cool, I wish that I had something like that," I felt a twinge of guilt as I thought about my father. "something to remind me of my family, I mean."

I shuffled my feet awkwardly again.

message 17: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments It felt odd when Anna touched my shoulder and asked if I was okay, a tender, genuine touch, something that I hadn't felt in over a year. I felt like I could talk to her, openly.

"I'm okay, I just feel guilty about putting my father in jail." It felt weird actually saying it.

message 18: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments The spot where she touched my shoulder felt warm in the cold of the rain.

"My dad used to be a cop, he said that's why mom fell in love with him." I didn't know why I kept talking but the words kept flowing

"He was shot in the leg on his last raid, the doctor said that he would never walk again, dad didn't take it well. he couldn't keep a job after that. over the next few months he kept getting worse and worse. I came home one day to dad passed out on the couch with a pile drugs on the kitchen table"

I almost started crying "without a moment's hesitation, I called the police. they found out that he, not only used the drugs, but was selling them, he got 5-10 years in prison" ((I don't know the actual punishment))

message 19: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments As Anna hugged me, I didn't know what I felt, it felt like a combination of embarrassment, excitement, nervousness, and relief.

"I-i don't know what to say" I managed, as I awkwardly returned the hug. it felt so different to my father's hugs as a child. I let a single tear roll down my face

message 20: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments I took a tissue from the pack and wiped my eyes with it, despite the rain.

I looked at her and said "thank you, i'm pretty sure if i didn't talk to someone i would have exploded" I made a small grin.

message 21: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments "I turned 13 in January, that all went down about the middle of February last year," i answered "and things only got crazier after that. I had no idea that lions could have scorpion tails" I grinned slightly larger than before

message 22: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments I thought about that for a second "hmm, I guess being relatively alone for almost a year and running from monsters can make someone seem older"

I rubbed rain out of my eye as I spoke, it seemed that as the morning progressed the darker it became.

message 23: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments "well," i said, "there's nothing wrong with being shorter than most people. and you may not look as mature as you would like to, but you certainly look like you've been out hunting in the rain."

I pushed my hair up from its plastered position to scratch my forehead. "I'm not sure what i look like, probably like i crawled out of a sewer somewhere" I grinned and giggled

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

((Lol rats don't drown Silly XD))

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

((Aw, touching!))

message 26: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments I smiled at her and laughed a little. I looked around a little and said "umm, the rain is starting to pick up, should we, like, go inside or something?"

message 27: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments ((?))

message 28: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments ((hello? Are you still there?))

message 29: by Xerinus (new)

Xerinus | 48 comments "sounds good to me," i said, following her toward a nearby shed "I haven't had breakfast yet."

message 30: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments Sky walked into the archery grounds with a bow slung over her shoulder and a quiver of arrows. She was awful at archery, so at her brother's insistence she had decided to try to get a little better. She recognized Anna and walked over to where her and Jack were and set up next to them and began shooting as well, though whereas their arrows hit the targets most of the time, Sky's arrows were wildly off. One of her arrows missed Jack by a few inches. "Sorry!" she apologized.

message 31: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments "Yeah I'm jealous because you can actually hit the targets," she joked right back with a glimmer in her eyes.

message 32: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments Sky smiled. "Well, you're both better than me by far," she replied. "You saw my last shot."

message 33: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments Sky smiled a bit and tried again. This time her arrow still wasn't anywhere near the bullseye, but it at least hit the target, if only barely. That shot made her more confident and she drew back the bow again and fired, but that arrow missed the target by several inches.

message 34: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments "No," she replied. "Go ahead."

message 35: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments "Okay," Sky said, a bit nervous but hiding it fairly well. She pulled back slowly, as if daring him to contradict her, and then released. This arrow hit much closer than the previous ones, even if it still hadn't quite reached the bullseye.

message 36: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments Sky smiled. "Thanks," she responded. Her shoulder hurt a little where he had hit her but she didn't let it show. "Now I just hope I can repeat that." She laughed.

message 37: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments Sky smirked and tried again, this arrow landing not too far from the other one. For good measure, she shot another arrow, which landed even closer to the bullseye than the original. "Maybe you're right," Sky said, half-jokingly. "The sky's the limit and whatnot."

message 38: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments "Sorry," replied Sky. "But I'm broke. Guess you'll just have to live without the money." She smirked.

message 39: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments "Okay, sure," she said, rolling her eyes good naturedly.

message 40: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments ((Lol ok))

"Time to find out if I suck at shooting or not," Christine said cheerfully.

message 41: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments Christine smiled and tried to cock the arrow. "Uh, how do you do this?" she asked, glancing at Sam.

message 42: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments "Okay," she said, pulling back and shooting like she'd seen people do on TV.

((lol it's been a long time since I have too))

message 43: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments It hit the target, not near the bullseye, but she figured it went bad for her first try. "How was that?" Christine asked Sam.

message 44: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments Christine nodded, and tried again. This time she overcompensated for her flaw, missing again. The third time she did a little better on the whole arm jerking thing. "I think I could do decent at this with some practice."

message 45: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments "Okay, but who would teach me? I barely know anyone," Christine said.

message 46: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments "Okay, should we go look for someone?" Christine inquired.

message 47: by Liza (new)

Liza | 508 comments ((Lol yep this is gonna be fun XD))

"Lets go then," said Christine.

((You first?))

Walking in she noticed how many Apollo kids there were here that she never noticed. Most were doing contests of who could shoot as many as possible. Almost all got them in the bullsye. In the midsts she saw Amorette besting all of her brothers and sisters.

message 49: by Max (last edited Jun 26, 2017 10:54AM) (new)

Max Theo took in the scene warily, watching the other campers with interest. Suddenly he felt the irrational urge to grab the nearest bow and just start shooting. Pausing for a moment to glance at P.J he nodded towards the racks of bows and strode down to them.
"These are beautiful." he half whispered, admiring the carvings that wound up the curved part of the bow. Grabbing one of the lefty bows he tested it carefully. and really well made. he thought to himself. Grabbing a couple of arrows he moved to find the nearest target.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

"How many do you think you can shoot at a time?" She asked looking around, the range. She noticed Chiron passing by then realised... he's a horse. "I knew things were strange around here but, why is that man a horse. He can't be a centaur, they are kind of jerks and loud and annoying. He is silently reading a book while smiling." She scratched her head and looked at the centaur questionably.
