Lilly (lillywantstoread) | 2 comments Hello everyone !

I've been looking to outline my novel and lately I have been having a lot of trouble finding a method that suits me. Recently, however, I have discovered this interesting method called the 'Snowflake method' and I am hoping to try it out and see if it works for me. This method is basically taking a single sentence about a concept and expanding on it until you have a basic skeleton of a novel, making writing the first draft a lot easier. The creator of this method, author Randy Ingermanson has written a book around this concept as well as having a website based around writing techniques. If you want to learn more about this method, here is the link:

I myself, have split each of the steps he has presented on the website into a certain period of time. Here's what I did:

Step 1 and 2- 1 day
Step 3- 2 days
Step 4- 1 day
Step 5- 2 days
Step 6- 1 week
Step 7- 1 week
Step 8- 1 week
Step 10- however long it takes me to make a first draft

So with this schedule, it will take me probably about a month to do, starting from this date, the 4th of January to the 29th of January. I'm hoping to have fun, and I'm really looking forward to what I can come up with to further expand my book. If possible, some of you may like to study along with me, although, you can make the process as long or as short as you want, this is just something experimental I'm doing to help with the writing process. If you do try it out, I would love to hear your thoughts, negative and positive. I'll hopefully remember to check in to show my progress and whether or not it worked for me.

Thanks!

This is so cool! I think I've uknowingly been using this method, this is how I usually start writing a different story. Id base the whole thing on one sentence, And expand from there. I thought I was doing something wrong, but atleast now I know im not!

Yuppers! For me (not too sure 'bout other people) I can base a whole story/idea on even 1 or 2 words. Today I thought of the phrase Continental Rebirth and now I have this idea for a story floating around my head and just expanding.

Also, what makes it soooo much more easier is if, the minute you get an idea you write it down, just writing/typing it gets the creative juices flowing!
