Spencer Quinn has some lighthearted funny mystery books from a dog's perspective that I would recommend too if Art of Racing in the Rain didn't grab your attention!
Courtney, what are the books called. That sounds intriguing. The other sounds a bit too tear jerker for me (other might enjoy, though. Appreciate the suggestion.)
*Slowly puts down Black Beauty* Ok. No tear jerkers...Although, I admit I don't remember Black Beauty so much as I remember loving it as a child. Has anyone read The Last Unicorn? I've been meaning to read it, and I think it's from the titular unicorn's perspective?
Valerie, they are the Chet & Bernie series. peter Abrams is his real name, but they are written under Spencer Quinn. The first book in the series is Dog On It. Such a great series... No tears, but quite a few laughs!! Valerie wrote: "Courtney, what are the books called. That sounds intriguing. The other sounds a bit too tear jerker for me (other might enjoy, though. There was a similar category another year, I think it was "A book with nonhuman characters". For that, I read The One and Only Ivan. It's a middle grade book and is told from the perspective of a gorilla. It was very good.
Not sure if this has been suggested yet, but The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - narrated by Death. Read it if you haven't read it already. :D Also, Grief Is the Thing with Feathers, most parts of which are narrated by 'Crow'.

I second The Book Thief recommendation--- definitely worth a read.
Did not think if a book with Death as a character. Good suggestion. I have read the book, however. BUt, there are others in that vein!
If there any cat lovers in this group, I totally recommend Love Saves the Day by Gwen Cooper. It's told from the perspective of a cat.
I thought of a book this morning as I was rearranging my "To Read Shelf"---- The Romantics by Leah Konen. I have not read the book, but it is a YA novel told by Love. It shall be my choice as I am trying to clear off my insane bookshelf and not add to it. (It was also written in 2016 for those reading a book for more than one category.)

I read The Last Unicorn, it is from the unicorn's perspective. It was a very good book. If you saw the cartoon adaptation that was made in the 80's, it is very close to the novel.
Thanks, Samantha! I have actually totally missed the boat on The Last Unicorn, which is why I thought I'd use this year to fill the gap.
Laura wrote: "I'm reading The Siren by Kiera Cass."I love Kiera Cass! I read her Selection books as last years something you wouldn't normally read. Then got hooked. Then got another friend hooked.
Anyways it was super cute.
Kathryn wrote: "I haven't read it yet, but would A Dog's Purpose fit this category?"A Dog's Purpose by Bruce Cameron fits perfectly. It is written in the first person with the dog as the narrator. It is also a lovely book, particularly if you are a dog person.

This sounds great. We almost went to see the movie this weekend and I really wanted to read the book first, but then my 7 yr old son did not really want to see it, so we saw "Sing" instead..
The book just became available on Overdrive, so after finishing what I'm currently reading, I'll probably Pick up "A Dog's Purpose".
With the suggestion of using Death, I have decided to do Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. Other Suggs are great and may have to check them out as well! Thanks so much for the help!
I read Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie as my first book this year and it's a good one, IMO for a non-human perspective.

I am sure not just myself, but others would like some suggestions. I prefer light. I do not mind children's books, or YA. I read all genres.
