That's great news. I love Lorrain's work. I hate to mention another publisher's work in this particular thread, but the book Ross referred to above, Monsieur de Bougrelon, is outstanding.

No, there is already another publisher working on another edition of that book.

What we have in mind is a major work, "Le vice errant".... and maybe something else besides that as well (who knows!)

Monsieur de Bougrelon is a novella ... Le vice errant is a full length novel. It is the novel he published directly after Monsieur de Phocas.

I'm so incredibly happy you're considering Le vice errant. Actually I'm incredibly happy you're considering any book by Lorrain.

We have decided to also publish another Lorrain collection, somewhat smaller than our previous two, called "Futile Virtue and Other Stories".

The short Lorrain collection will be called "Masks in the Tapestry" rather than "Futile Virtue"...

I recently finished MASKS IN THE TAPESTRY and was wondering where the original source material was taken from. I confess to being a little bit spoiled when it comes to Brian Stableford's translations and was surprised by the lack of an introduction, or at least original story sources. Does anybody know?

It is a section from "Princesses d’ivoire et d’ivresse," one of his major collections. The rest of the stories in that volume, I think, are translated in the other two volumes of short stories by Lorrain that Brian translated. The original section is titled "Masques dans la tapisserie". For instance, in Nightmares of an Ether-Drinker, I think the contents do not precisely match "Contes d’un buveur d’éther" and are subsidized by material from other books, such as "Princesses d’ivoire et d’ivresse."
