Rebecca | 8 comments Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. I am doing a reading challenge and need to find a book that is either set n China or has a character that is Chinese. Does anyone know of a cozy mystery that would work? Thank you so much for any help!

Of course, there is the Judge Dee series by Robert van Gulik, which would not be considered a cozy either. I have read some books in each of the series and enjoyed both.

Mary Feliz (mary_feliz) | 12 comments They aren't exactly cozies, but SJ Rozan's series (which starts with Mandarin Plaid) pairs Manhattan PI Lydia Chin with a crusty former cop who is of Irish ancestry. Lydia has to balance the expectations of her Chinese mother and her community with her desire to be an independent woman. She wants to be both American and Chinese, but finds the two goals in conflict.

I really really love Rozan's writing and the characters.

In the end she finds that the ties she feared were holding her back -- her responsibilities to the Chinese culture and community, are also her strength. Her friendship with the Irish cop gives Rozan a vehicle for explaining some of the customs with which readers may not be familiar.
