What a way to start the new year!

Too Late is a brilliant book that makes the reader wonder: too late for what? The characters are well-defined: an imperfect cop who admits he's not very good at his job, a young woman who's breaking under the burden of the life that keeps her imprisoned, and a criminal genius whose bad deeds are driven by his search for the love and joy he can't hold onto.

The story seems predictable at first--young love thwarted by evil. But just when you think you've read the last scene, you come across a "prologue" that sets the story on its ear and sheds a whole new light on the situation.

I recommend it.
