Audiobooks are great for long commutes and to listen to while doing chores but It's been a while since I last listened to one.
A couple of my past favorites are Nerd Do Well by Simon Pegg and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.

I listen to AB for lack of time, the narrator is what does, or kills the book, at least in my opinion. Old AB are less fun, the narrator tend to sound like an old wizard (even if there no old wizard in the book).
Anyway, urban fantasey works well in AB, Jim Butcher's Dresden, Seanan McGuire's October Daye are good examples.
Ready Player One work almost as well as in print.
Not a genera book, but Bossypants is narrated by Tina herself, so she add refrences to it. It was fun.

The narrator makes all of the difference! I couldn't get into the Jim Butcher even though I really wanted to like them because everyone else seemed to. But the audiobook was pretty good, thanks the dulcet tones of James Marsters. I can also listen to anything read by Neal Gaiman.
I really enjoyed Bossypants. Not all authors should be narrating their own books but she did a really good job.

I think I can listen to a phonebook narration if it was by neil gaiman! :) Recently I listened to "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" and it was perfect as audiobook.
wow, I didn't know Buffy's James Marsters is narrating books ! definitely added to my list :)
Also, Leah Remini's Scientology book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I felt hearing it in her voice added a lot
I'm currently listening to Daemon and the narration is very good. Jeff Gurner whom I'm familiar with from Kill Decision is doing voice acting to all of Daniel Suarez's books. Like Kill Decision, the production should have added a female actress to do voice acting for the female characters, but it's not such a big deal.

So far I've listened only to a few audiobooks from start to end, though I like to "sample" them (By sampling I mean 30min+/++, not 2-3 minutes).
Usually I prefer reading a book than listening to one, that's why I'm very picky when it comes to audiobooks. My recommendation for an audiobook is Kill Decision narrated by Jeff Gurner. The narration is great, Jeff did a really good job narrating Kill Decision. I think it was the first audiobook that I listened to from its start to its very end. Besides, it's a good techno-thriller, Daniel Suarez knows how to deliver a smart techno-thriller.
If I remember correctly, Jeff Gruner narrated all of Daniel Suarez's books. His most known (and praised) book is Daemon which is followed by Freedom™.
