These are great suggestions. I have been using overdrive to download Kindle books and audiobooks from the library for many years. It is a great way to enjoy lots of excellent books for free. Best of all you can access the library from anywhere in the world where you have an internet connection. This has been very helpful to me as I have been traveling extensively oversees during the last couple of years. I have not used Hoopla as often, but I love The Great Courses that are available in the TV area. These courses are fantastic and are very expensive, if you buy them directly from The Great Courses. On Hoopla they are free, what a deal.

Book buying is expensive. That's why libraries were invented.
But, who wants to drive to a library, search for a book in their system, pray it's at your branch, and check it out...and what about those late fees or having to return the book later.
Enter Hoopla and OverDrive.
Two apps that you need to download on your phone right now. I'll wait...go download them seriously. Pop open your iPhone or Android App Store and press the download button.
Ok downloaded? Sweet, let's get you set up.
First, do you have a library card? If so, skip the next section.
Getting an E-library card
Go to Google and type in your city and the words "library card." So for me, that'd be "Los Angeles library card."
Los Angeles is great because they have eCards, which are electronic library cards can get from home by just entering your name and address on their website.
After you enter your information you'll be given an eCard number. Write it down, we'll need it for your apps.
But what if your library doesn't offer eCards? That sucks. You're going to have to do it the old fashioned way and head to your local library and get a physical card.
I know some of you are going to think that's too much effort...suck it up! Or move to a better city, whichever is easier.
If you don't have access to a library near you, email me and I'll send you my address to get you set up with an LA eCard. Limited to the first 25 people who need it.
Setting up Hoopla and OverDrive
You've downloaded the apps, right? And you have your library card number handy?
Then you're practically done. Just sign up using your email or Facebook. It'll ask you for your library card number, so plug it in. That's it!
Now you have access to thousands of books, audiobooks, movies, periodicals, magazines, you name it.
How is this possible? Welcome to the 21st century. Libraries just became cool again. I guess they did it for those who forgot what physical libraries are. Whatever the reason, you'll fucking love it.
Pick your first book
Have a look around. Start favoriting books to add to your wishlist. Add everything that looks interesting.
I recommend starting with a quick book. Something to get the reading juices flowing and build some momentum. A book that fits the bill is Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Search for it and download it to your phone. Give it a read. I bet it won't take you more than an hour or two to finish.
In my next email, I'll share with you why I started Fucking Read and share some insights on why I use so much profanity. But until then, give whichever book you choose a read and email me when you've you've finished.
A simple, "JNF, I finished 'insert book here'" will do nicely. Then pat yourself on the back, you've already matched the national average and it's only day one.
But you're not done for the year...you're just getting started. Isn't that thrilling?!
Turning the page,
JNF
