I am currently reading the second book, I will say that even in text format you can clearly see that Del Torro's visual style transcribes well into the print format, he is one director that has a specific visual style that persists in all his films.

I am half way through book 3 and I will agree with Jason, certain aspects of the story and characters start to degrade as the story move on. I hope that the TV show can rectify this. I know GDT had this story kicking around in his brain for a long time (you can see the evidence in Blade 2) I hope that the creative team on the show can give the books a vibrant and well liked universe on the small screen.
The show was pretty decent last night. My favorite character was that Van Helsing type guy. I don't I'll be reading the book but the show looks promising!
So after seeing the premier I am on the fence, the show didn't leave any of the intrigue or mystery that the book (the first one) sets up in regards to the vampire and the "virus" Del Torro wrote the first book almost like the walking dead where it followed the 5 survivors and Eph and Nora. They didn't all turn an hour after the incident. No one even sees or gets attacked by the master till the end of the first book. Usually I don't complain about these type things but I feel that the way the book trilogy goes would have translated better on film than what we got. D.Torro stated he had planned a 5 season series but with as rushed as events were in the pilot I feel that the idea of 5 seasons isn't going to happen.
They have kind of confused me on the show, in the book the Probiscus has what is described as a giant stinger on it (its reach on the average male is about 5.5-6 feet in he stinger itself has two holes on it one to pump out the blood and one to inject the Blood and blood worms. So far I have seen two variations on the show, the one from the girl that grabbed the guys throat and the masters which had the stinger. I thought the show being ex-produced by Del torro would at least keep to the book source in terms of the vampire biology..... but then I forgot it was co-written by another guy.

I'm old fashioned. They should just have fangs.

Not that I'm too crazy about The Strain TV series (I just find myself watching it on sunday nights), But I was not happy with the first episode of Season 2. I didn't like how the master was originally a Polish Nobleman who's body The Master jumped into. I thought he would turn out to be the original vampire. I also didn't like the fact that the silver Sword cane that Setrakian uses originally belonged to the guy before he became The Master. Episode two, however, was better.

Okay, I basically stopped watching this show after season two, cause I didn't like The Strain's take on vampires. Hey, not saying it's a bad show....it's just not my thing is all. Del Toro said one of the reasons he did it was to make vampires scary again, so....good for him for trying to do that, that's the kind of shit we need more of!!! I watched the season finale (the second half of it) last night just because I wanted to see how they would end it. I was happy with some of it and unhappy with the rest.
*SPOILER ALERT* If you have not watched this yet but plan to, I don't want to ruin anything for you.
I did not like how The professor (Abraham) was dead. It should have been him to take out the Master, not Eph and his son. That was a noble sacrifice, but it should have been the old vampire hunter to do it, he needed to finish his life's work. But, from the beginning of the series, I had a feeling it wasn't going to end that way. At least the Master got his ass blown up by a nuclear bomb. Also, I was glad it wasn't the Kevin Durand character to do it, I liked him too much to see him die. LOL...did you know that guy was one of the choices to play Negan on The Walking Dead before they picked Jeffrey Dean Morgan?
I feel like there are some people out there that didn't like that happy ending, but I did. And maybe it's not super happy cause the government kept three vampires alive. You know, "cause there is no Area 51, but we are going to study some vampires." LOL!
They ended it well, I just thought it should have been the Professor to take the master out. like I said, I haven't been watching it since season two, so I don't know what happened to him. But it still should have been him. Other than that, good way to end the show.
