Just finished a novelette called The Stature
LOVED this book. Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Trying to catch up to my goal of reading 100 books. I just finished
which was sort of like a Shakespeare play. I'm still reading
And I just started
And
Get Anyone to Do Anything by David J. Lieberman (rather handy)And A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf.
Maddy wrote: "I'm still reading How To Learn Any Language Quickly, Easily, Inexpensively, Enjoyably and on Your Own by Barry Farber "I quite liked that book, but I couldn't get it to work for me. I think the technique needs practice in itself.
I've gone and started reading Crime and Punishment and I don't know why I'm putting myself through it. :-/
Virginia wrote: "I've gone and started reading Crime and Punishment and I don't know why I'm putting myself through it. :-/"Really?? Loved it. One of the few books I've read twice.
Nice try at asking people not to use book covers instead of book links, Nancy. You can't work out what the book covers are on a mobile phone.I'm currently reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, which I'm finding gripping.
I'm reading Grimm: The Chopping Block by John Passarella, a media tie-in a series I've never read before. It's fun and a little gruesome...
I'm reading My Guru And His Disciple by Christopher Isherwood. As always he's very readable, and his experience plunging into Vedanta with a famous guru is interesting reading.

Sometimes the book covers show, and sometimes they don't. I'm not really sure why. It's much easier to click on the book link. Thanks for your cooperation, everyone!
I just finished reading How Beautiful the Ordinary: Twelve Stories of Identity which I enjoyed a lot.
I'm reading A Street Cat Named Bob: How One Man and His Cat Found Hope on the Streets by James Bowen. It's lovely.
I am currently reading Our Lady of the Flowers I am pretty sure I read pre-Goodreads days, a long time ago, but thought I would give it a re-read since I couldn't remember much about it.
Reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt which was a book club selection. This book won a Pulitzer? Meh.
Tim wrote: "Reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt which was a book club selection. This book won a Pulitzer? Meh."It's a meaty read too, isn't it? Might shift that further down my TBR list, then :-)
Mel wrote: "I am currently reading Our Lady of the Flowers I am pretty sure I read pre-Goodreads days, a long time ago, but thought I would give it a re-read since I couldn't remember much about it."I need to read him again, too. Let us know what you think these days.

Will do! :)
Will do! :)
Clodia wrote: "I'm reading My Guru And His Disciple by Christopher Isherwood. Just read A Single Man recently and I loved it, especially the extended metaphor toward the end. Maybe I'll check this one out!
Currently half way through Never Let Me Go and am really loving it. Characterizations are beautifully deep!
Greg wrote: "Currently half way through Never Let Me Go and am really loving it. Characterizations are beautifully deep!"I loved this book and found the end so moving! The film is quite good too.
Tim wrote: Reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt which was a book club selection. This book won a Pulitzer? Meh. Now see, I'm one of the multitudes that loved The Goldfinch!
I'm currently reading The Painter, Boy, Snow, Bird, and A Midsummer Night's Dream: The Graphic Novel.

The book was fascinating. Very thought provoking. Haven't seen the movie.
Just started Two Boys Kissing. Unusual style but I'm finding it very tender and beautifully written.
Jonathan wrote: "Just started Two Boys Kissing. Unusual style but I'm finding it very tender and beautifully written."Such a lovely book, Jonathan. It should be compulsory reading in schools :-)
Jonathan wrote: "Just started Two Boys Kissing. Unusual style but I'm finding it very tender and beautifully written."I loved this book. You may want to check out How Beautiful the Ordinary: Twelve Stories of Identity, a collection of short stories by YA writers that includes the original story that was the basis for Two Boys Kissing.
I agree, Natasha. Thanks, Nancy. I'll check that one out.
I'll be sure to share my thoughts of Two Boys Kissing here when I've finished.

We discussed this as a group earlier this year. It would be great if you could post your thoughts here. I leave group discussion topics open indefinitely just in case anyone hasn't had time to read the book and want to comment later on.

Great, will do! I've been deliberately avoiding that thread as I want to read it all when I'm finished with the book.
finished doctor zhivago; started travels with charley in search of america (re-read for book club at work); still cruising softly through lermontov's poetry, too.
I'm about to start, "Memoria D'uns Ulls Pintats" (A Memory of Painted Eyes), which is actually written in Catalan, by a well-known gay singer here in Barcelona, Lluís Llach. If I can find an English translation, I'll post it up here. If I can't, I may have to translate it!

Lions and Shadows: An Education in the Twenties is a lovely memoir of his early years too.
Mel wrote: "I started reading Ammonite. I am liking it so far."Have you finished it yet? How do you like it? I read it a couple of years ago and was fascinated by it.
Clodia wrote: "I'm reading My Guru And His Disciple by Christopher Isherwood. As always he's very readable, and his experience plunging into Vedanta with a famous guru is interesting reading."What do you think of it? I read Christopher and His Kind not so long ago and enjoyed it very much.
I'm currently reading the Martian... and then plan to read Two Boys Kissing after that. Like to alternate Scifi/LGBT genres. One of these days I'll have to read one that straddles both, or write my own. :)
E.W. wrote: "I'm currently reading the Martian... and then plan to read Two Boys Kissing after that."Wow. What a treat. The Martian is the best book I've read this year by miles. Two Boys Kissing is delightful.
