And I just started 4000 Years of Uppity Women by Vicki León And The Invisible Bridge by Julie Orringer

I quite liked that book, but I couldn't get it to work for me. I think the technique needs practice in itself.

I've gone and started reading Crime and Punishment and I don't know why I'm putting myself through it. :-/

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 465 comments Virginia wrote: "I've gone and started reading Crime and Punishment and I don't know why I'm putting myself through it. :-/"

Really?? Loved it. One of the few books I've read twice.

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 465 comments Nice try at asking people not to use book covers instead of book links, Nancy. You can't work out what the book covers are on a mobile phone.

I'm currently reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, which I'm finding gripping.

message 14: by Julia (new)

Julia | 271 comments I'm reading Grimm: The Chopping Block by John Passarella, a media tie-in a series I've never read before. It's fun and a little gruesome...

message 15: by Clodia (new)

Clodia Metelli (clodiametelli) | 21 comments I'm reading My Guru And His Disciple by Christopher Isherwood. As always he's very readable, and his experience plunging into Vedanta with a famous guru is interesting reading.

Sometimes the book covers show, and sometimes they don't. I'm not really sure why. It's much easier to click on the book link. Thanks for your cooperation, everyone!

I just finished reading How Beautiful the Ordinary: Twelve Stories of Identity which I enjoyed a lot.

I am currently reading Our Lady of the Flowers I am pretty sure I read pre-Goodreads days, a long time ago, but thought I would give it a re-read since I couldn't remember much about it.

message 20: by Tim (new)

Tim | 152 comments Reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt which was a book club selection. This book won a Pulitzer? Meh.

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 465 comments Tim wrote: "Reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt which was a book club selection. This book won a Pulitzer? Meh."

It's a meaty read too, isn't it? Might shift that further down my TBR list, then :-)

I need to read him again, too. Let us know what you think these days.

Sounds interesting Clodia. Just read A Single Man recently and I loved it, especially the extended metaphor toward the end. Maybe I'll check this one out!

Greg Currently half way through Never Let Me Go and am really loving it. Characterizations are beautifully deep!

Such a lovely book, Jonathan. It should be compulsory reading in schools :-)

message 34: by Jaye (new)

Nancy | 2838 comments Jonathan wrote: "Just started Two Boys Kissing. Unusual style but I'm finding it very tender and beautifully written."

I loved this book. You may want to check out How Beautiful the Ordinary: Twelve Stories of Identity, a collection of short stories by YA writers that includes the original story that was the basis for Two Boys Kissing.

message 36: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 173 comments I agree, Natasha.

Thanks, Nancy. I'll check that one out.

I'll be sure to share my thoughts of Two Boys Kissing here when I've finished.

We discussed this as a group earlier this year. It would be great if you could post your thoughts here. I leave group discussion topics open indefinitely just in case anyone hasn't had time to read the book and want to comment later on.

Great, will do! I've been deliberately avoiding that thread as I want to read it all when I'm finished with the book.

Sergey (zvukvnochi) finished doctor zhivago; started travels with charley in search of america (re-read for book club at work); still cruising softly through lermontov's poetry, too.

Kevin Booth (keb007) | 5 comments I'm about to start, "Memoria D'uns Ulls Pintats" (A Memory of Painted Eyes), which is actually written in Catalan, by a well-known gay singer here in Barcelona, Lluís Llach.

If I can find an English translation, I'll post it up here. If I can't, I may have to translate it!

I have only seen the film of A Single Man, but I've enjoyed other Isherwood novels and stories. Lions and Shadows: An Education in the Twenties is a lovely memoir of his early years too.

What do you think of it? I read Christopher and His Kind not so long ago and enjoyed it very much.

E.W. | 16 comments I'm currently reading the Martian... and then plan to read Two Boys Kissing after that. Like to alternate Scifi/LGBT genres. One of these days I'll have to read one that straddles both, or write my own. :)

Wow. What a treat. The Martian is the best book I've read this year by miles. Two Boys Kissing is delightful.
