MOVIE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Did you like the book any better after watching the movie?

2. Which movie version did you watch and what did you think about the casting for the movie? Did it match with your vision of the characters?

3. What parts of the movie did you feel enhanced the story as written by Thomas Hardy?

1. I did like the movie better than the book. I think that it solidified some parts of the plot a bit more such that I liked the story .5 stars more. Yeah. Not a lot. I'm still not sure why this has been made into a movie even once. I guess the love quadrangle bit is interesting for filmmakers? Of the books of Hardy's I've read so far, this is the one I would have thought least likely to have been made into a move. Guess not.

2. I watched the 2005 movie version and definitely approved of the choice for Maybold, Ben Miles (which I know better as Patrick from Coupling). My husband swears I look like Keeley Hawes who plays Fancy Day, but I beg to differ. I thought the parts were definitely well-played by all.

3. I liked that the script writer added a little more to Maybold's character and pursuit of Miss Day. I was surprised by his marriage proposal in the book, but his time spent with her in the movie made the marriage proposal a little less surprising.
