Tui Allen (tuibird) | 3 comments Before writing this book I was a meat eater, but an animal lover. Oxymoron of course. During the process of writing Ripple I ate less and less meat. One day I was sitting eating calamari in a restaurant and I suddenly thought, "This is squid. It has been stolen from the dolphins." I never ate fish, poultry or meat from that moment.
Now I am fully vegan except for a few old shoes and handbags made of leather I still own.
I've only been vegan for about a year. The discovery of the terrible environmental impact of the grazing industries on the environment and climate turned me away from dairy. Also live mincing of male chickens from eggs. There is a human who eats an egg in the last chapter of Ripple I think. It's the only chapter with a human in it. I could easily change that one day.
In Ripple the characters are all dolphins so they cannot be vegetarian.
The book I'm just finishing now has some human characters too. They are all vegan. I want to normalize veganism in all my future stories.

Ripple is the twenty million year old story of how love inspired one dolphin to an intellectual achievement that changed the universe.

It is one of the best reviewed NZ books on Amazon, with 60 Amazon reviews averaging 4.8 and they've come in entirely unsolicited from readers all over the world.
