Great writer, encouraged to extend himself too much perhaps. I won't read this book. Since reading Leaving Cheyenne, his best book in my opinion, or the one that hit me first emotionally, I have read a few of the good ones and will stop now. Want to remember him at his best.

If you won't read it, how do you know it isn't worthy? I wrote a review of it on Goodreads recently and gave it four stars. Yes, it was different than many of his others. But I think it was quite worthy.
Read this book. It is far from his best work but it is still enjoyable. I've read most of his books and Larry McMurtry is an author who surprises you each time you read one. Give him the opportunity to entertain you.
Love, love, love McMurtry. I enjoyed The Last Kind Words Saloon and almost all of his other books. Rhino Ranch was a particular favorite and of course Lonesome Dove. Those cowboys are some of the best characters ever written.
