This series I started sometime last year as a way to revisit SK, an author I read and enjoyed a lot years ago (when I was "into" horror). The first book in the series was just okay I have to say, quite short (rare for SK) and not filled with his regular magic, but I wasn't going to give up as I'd heard good things about the series from others I trust. When this group selected the series I was excited to return to it and I have to say this book is SO much more enjoyable than the first. I'm now fully committed to the series and am looking forward to the next.
I love the characters, not only getting to know Roland better but also the characters we meet in this book. Really enjoyed this book, couldn't put it down.

I finished it the other day. Like you, Todd, once I got into it I just couldn't stop...it was so good!
It was good to see Roland still conflicted about what happened to Jake, and I liked that the third door was a departure from the expected....

I read The Gunslinger more than 10 years ago and didn't like it much. Still, I heard the voices and decided to continue. So, I started this one today. Up until page 30, I was wondering why I'm reading this and was about to stop. I pushed on and it started getting more interesting after 50. I'm just after page 100 now and I'm finding interesting at last, I really want to know what happens and how. But this doesn't feel like fantasy at all, or at least it's not what I expected.

I felt that way through the whole series. I mean, it's obviously fantasy since it's not real and couldn't take place in our real world, but it's different than every other fantasy I've read.

I'm afraid to admit that my patience run out at the 50% mark and I jumped off this train. I'm not sure if I will ever give it a 3rd try and continue with this series. I won't say more because I don't want to spoil anything for anybody. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
I was very intigued to see how the tarot card reading from the end of the first book would play out into a story....
I finished! I liked this book, more than "The Gunslinger". I think that there's a more linear plot, no so many reference to Roland's past and the story is well written and holds the reader's attention. I think I'll read also the other books of the series.

From the end of the last book, I now know what the title means---and am very interested to see how it is going to play out!
I am starting probably tomorrow---who else is in???
