What book did you read that contained a character with a mental illness?

My favorite would be Wally Lamb's This Much Is True.

That is such a good book!

I read David Walliams' Grandpa's Great Escape, which was hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. The main character's grandfather is suffering from dementia, but I don't think that satisfies the challenge since it's not the main character. Still going through my TBR.

Those would work but I'm looking for titles for kids too.

Grandpa's Great Escape is middle grade, for ages 8-12.

OCDaniel by Wesley King is another middle grade novel, with a main character who suffers from OCD.

Meh by Deborah Malcolm is a picture book about depression.
