Stephan Clinkerhoffen (stephanvonclinkerhoffen) | 2 comments “Belas Rift” the third novel in the series The Hidden City of Chelldrah-ham is just released.
The Young Adult Fantasy Fiction written by Winchcombe local Stephen Guyatt (pen name Stephan von Clinkerhoffen) can be read either as a stand-alone or as part of the adventure series.
Stig the hero and his female accomplice, Meg, travel from their fantasy world to 21st Century England in fact to Gloucestershire, via an interdimensional portal. Their mission is to save all life on their world from the actions of an evil human who seeks to destroy it for her own greed. It is she they followed through the rift.
Their journey which is fast paced, sometimes eye-opening and often humorous, takes them through many well-known and historic locations including:
Apperley, Odda’s Chapel and St Mary’s Church Deerhurst
Cheltenham’s town centre, Regent Arcade, Race Course and the Minster
Sudeley Castle and St Mary’s Church
Stanway Fountain
St Peter’s Church Winchcombe
Winchcombe Railway
Cleeve Hill
Belas Knap (hence the title of the book)
During their time in our world they notice strange differences between their way of life and ours. For example:
They have no use for money and gold is used to make platters to eat from, it has no value. So there is no theft
Eating meat seems like murdering your friends and pheasant shooting for pleasure abominable
Oil, petrol and electricity are foreign to them
Motorways and roundabouts etc are baffling, their carts are much slower and powered by springs.
