I mean they're both retellings, but it's so similar in the way that Feyre was the only one who could hunt, and how she had to take care of her sisters. How there's this whole other world aside from the human world, and how there are various creatures out there. (hide spoiler)]

Have gotten really busy over the weekend so I haven't had a chance to start reading yet, hopefully will be able to start by the end of the day if all goes well ;u;

Chapters 1 - 12

(view spoiler)[ I like the take on Beast and Beauty. Beauty as a huntress is pretty much perfect.
I kind of like that "Gaston" Solmir is a nice guy who likes to hunt as well. I do have a sense he will become angry when the Beast and her grow fond of each other especially since he's helping the sisters. I hope though he ends up being different. Albe seems like he would end up with the sister who wanted Solmir for some reason. I just want her to find someone. Maybe Solmir's time with her changes her mind and everyone gets a happily ever after.
I don't think the Beast killed her father but I wonder where he is. Is he captive in the castle or what?
What is the task Beauty must do? Is it capturing the Firebird??? (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 13 - 16

(view spoiler)[ Damn. I must have missed where he actually died. Did she see his body and I missed it? It's real sad that's the way he died when he wasn't that person.

The fox leading her to the lake makes me feel like my theory is confirmed. She saw the firebird and she needs to hunt it. Once she hunts it the beast will turn into a man. Although she's supposed to kill a dragon...

A slight bit of Stockholm Syndrome but she did always wanted to avenge her father and boy did she try. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 17 - 22

(view spoiler)[ I knew Asenka and Solmir were going to end up together when she left. I knew it! Everyone's going to end up having a happy ending. I want her to go to Beast so badly. Will he come to her being a beast and terrorizing the town? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Well there's not a lot that's happened at this stage that wasn't mentioned in the synopsis xD we've had the unwanted time with the baroness, a bit of a look into Beauty's potential talent as a huntress and what looks like the loss of the father's business. (view spoiler)[ Well we've now moved to the forest as specified in the synopsis, and I'm kinda just waiting for something (else) to go horribly wrong - as per the original Beauty and the Beast story. Is the father going to die and Yeva go to take revenge? Or be taken as is the usual in adaptations of Beauty and the Beast?

Plus, Solmir is here - probably to ask for Yeva's hand in marriage, thus breaking Asenka's heart. Not looking forward to that :| (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Well Beauty's Dad is dead :| I mean, I was kinda expecting it to be honest (what with the title and a whole bunch of subtle hints earlier), but at the same time I didn't think that author would actually kill him off XD;; I expected this to be a bit closer to the original and have him captured and Beauty trade herself for his freedom.

And now there's also an aspect of storytelling within the novel, Scheherazade style (1001 nights ;D)... I'm expecting for this to lead to the Beast falling in love with her - though not necessarily her falling for him. It definitely has more to the captive side of things than in the original, and so far there doesn't appear to be any talking furniture/cutlery...

Plus, the "Gaston" of the novel (or at least... who I THINK is the Gaston) seems to be a pretty decent guy, and not at all Gaston-y. It's only his position within the story (loves her, she doesn't love him, etc...) that makes me think he may be Gaston. At this stage, I'm hoping he has a happy ending - though I'm also hoping he ends up with Asenka :| (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[That was a different way of doing things... rather than being almost torn apart by wolves and saved by the Beast, she instead is lured to a frozen pond by a... water spirit? Saves herself from being pulled into the depths and drowned and simply saved from hypothermia from The Beast.

It's a nice change actually. Beauty isn't made out to be someone in need of saving; she can take care of herself, save herself from the dangers out there. She just needs a little assistance with the aftereffects ;D (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[The death of Yeva's father is somehow so much more heartbreaking when you find that he wasn't killed after all, but simply died as an old man; alone and cold in a forest he no longer remembered with nothing but his hunting dog to keep him company, and no longer in control of his own mind. 11% - eh, this is pretty slow so far... I hope things pick up pretty soon. Also, (view spoiler)[I doubt that fiance will ever show up again now that they're poor. (hide spoiler)]

23% - (view spoiler)[Liking it, also liking Solmir. I feel bad for him, he seems so sweet. I just want to story to end there with them getting married because I'm scared terrible things will happen to the other characters. (hide spoiler)]

So I had a two-hour car ride today, and I finished it...

- it was less thrilling than I expected it to be.
- the dog's name (Doe-Eyed was just weird. How do you recall this dog? I just don't really see it working in a hunt)
- the images before Beast's chapters were intriguing, but didn't add much to the story, except when Ivan gives in to the Beast towards the end.
- the whole thing with the Firebird was just too much. I was too skeptical when the whole thing came up. And Ivan being the prince for the story? Too much, lady, too much. (hide spoiler)]

Just started this today (later than I hoped). Opening chapter is so-so. Hope this doesn't go all Disney.

I finished (view spoiler)[I really liked the premise and the execution of the story. I also liked Yeva. She wasn't over confident, but driven by revenge. I honestly can't think a thing I didn't like about the story except the ending with the Firebird scene, which just got a bit confusing. (hide spoiler)]

24%-think the split viewpoint helps us in some understanding of each character.

75%-some of this is rather unexpected. The passages where Yeva is with Beast are more appealing. There's a warmth to the writing that seems missing in the rest of it.

80%-even amongst people, you can be lonely. I like the supernatural element to the relationship.

(view spoiler)[Thank god he didn't kill her father. Because while kidnapping can be forgiven of a literal beast (depending on intentions and reasons), murder of her father would have made things very complicated. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Is the author deliberately trying to make Yeva look like an idiot? The Beast has dropped hints about not killing her father and the book is written in a way that makes it seem as if the truth should be obvious. And we've already been told anyway. Yet Yeva is still going all Inigo Montota?

Here's a tip, either Don't tell the reader that the beast didn't kill dear ol' dad, or make the protagonist smarter. (hide spoiler)]

Starting chapter 23
(view spoiler)[Okay, this is starting to piss me off. Do we really need all these chapters of playing house. At this rate, she'll be 80 by the time she goes back. The beast won't recognize the old woman and then everyone will live miserable ever after. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 13

(view spoiler)[ This reminds me so much of Cruel Beauty and I don't like it... So far this book is a 2 starts I still was hoping this change somehow but it is still the same and boring by the way. I didn't see the "bad-ass" character in Yeva and the Beast is so boring, I totally see coming Yeva trying to kill the Beast and the truth about her father's death and all the others characters are so lame for me most at all Solmir.

The only thing positive I find in this book is that it's fast reading (hide spoiler)]
