SPOILER ALERT!! SPOILER ALERT!! THIS TOPIC CONTAINS SPOILERS. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ACOTAR, THEN YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Let us all agree now that ACOMAF was, and will be, infinitely better than ACOTAR. There, now that that is out of the way, and we all agree than Tamlin is a tool, let us get on with discussions.

What did you think of ACOMAF? Have something you'd like to share? Any funny stories, pictures, etc.? Here's the place to do it.

NOTE: PLEASE REFRAIN FROM DISCUSSING IN DEPTHS ACOMAF AND ACOWAR IN THIS TOPIC FOR SPOILER REASONS.

Shania | 6 comments I totally agree. ACOMAF is definitely better than ACOTAR and even though I ship Rhysand and Feyre all the way I still want to ask this question.

Do you think Tamlin was just being overprotective because he didn't want anything to happen to Feyre and because of what happened with his family?

My thoughts on this question are: even though Tamlin might have thought he was protecting Feyre I still thought it wasn't a good enough of a reason for how he treated her and it really bothered me that he never thought to stop and think about how feyre was feeling. She was literally losing weight and having terrible nightmares every night and Tamlin never bothered to ask her if she was ok. The only person that did care was Rhysand and he noticed these things almost immediately. All I got to say is if Tamlin really did love Feyre why didn't he notice when Feyre wasn't ok? Why didn't he help her through her nightmares and talk with her about them? Why didn't he notice when she was losing weight and not eating? If he truly did love her then why didn't he see that Feyre was suffering?

I can see where you're coming from. And I think a part of it could be out of over-protectiveness. But, I also think something about Under the Mountain may have broken Tamlin, so that he couldn't love Feyre the same afterwards. Because he DID love her before. He sent her away, if I recall correctly, out of fear for her life in ACOTAR, and she came back. After the mountain, though, I think his love for her was twisted into something akin to possessiveness and greed. I think he coveted her for the idol she was, because she set everyone free, and wanted that idol for himself. He was blinded by his return to power, and maybe a part of him was so blinded by that, that he missed all of the depressing signs that Feyre was breaking apart.

As someone who's been in a similar relationship, I can see the similarities. I was falling apart, but my S/O was so engrossed in his own happiness that he couldn't see how I was breaking apart bit by bit.

I believe that a part of him may still love her, and maybe in his mind, he was trying to make everything safe for her so that she wouldn't have to suffer anymore. But he was too engrossed in it, that he couldn't see her.

So Maas has confirmed that Tamlin has his own journey in ACOWAR. How do you think that will play out?

I am glad that Maas has confirmed that Tamlin will have his own journey in ACOWAR because I feel like it's needed.Tamlin, at the beginning, gave Feyre everything she would need to be herself and feel safe but once Tamlin got what he wanted (his powers and his land) he just stopped trying. He stopped being the Tamlin that, I think, everybody liked in the beginning of ACOTAR.

I really hope that through this journey, Tamlin realizes the mistakes that he made in ACOMAF but most importantly how he treated Feyre after and even during the time under the mountain. I also really really really hope that he comes to realize that Feyre doesn't love him anymore and lets her go because even though I don't like Tamlin I still think he will be a necessity later on to defeat the King.

I feel like Tamlin has a lot he needs to make up for in the next book, ACOWAR and I'm excited on how Maas will write that journey because I feel like it will be important.

Also on a completely different note, I would love for there to be a fight between Rhys and Tamlin. I mean how great would it be for Rhys to rip Tamlin to shreds because of everything he did to Feyre and his family. what would also be great is if we see Rhys in his beast form along with Tamlin in his. I just think this would be a fantastic scene in the book.

I don't believe Tamlin was just protecting her. He states at the end of the book "i don't care if she is your mate". I think that he's controlling (which has previously been portrayed). I think he loves her to a degree but I think it is a love pushed over to obsession. I think he has control issues and honestly believes that she was a possession and that Rhys took his possession. Again it shows that he doesn't listen to Feyre at all. I think there are going to be some major slaps in the face (so to speak) when (if) it comes out that it was her choice and that she really does not love Tamlin. However, I am keen to see Lucian's role in the next book considering Feyre's sister is now his mate.

I completely agree. Tamlin is clearly dealing with his own PTSD over what happened UTM, and it's coming from his guilt over not protecting Feyre. He could have done something and didn't because ultimately Tamlin's number one priority is Tamlin. Even as Feyre is vomiting because of nightmares caused by her trauma he doesn't help her.
Personally, I believe Tamlin will never be able to see Feyre as a complete person. He needed her for a specific purpose, and used her likes and interests to get her to fall in love with him. He gave her what she needed, but not out of a desire to make her feel wanted. It was always out of a desire to fix his own problems and get back his powers.
Protection is always a weird thing to talk about because we cling to the notion that protecting someone always comes out of a place of goodness and selfishness. But where Tamlin deviates is he only protects Feyre when it benefits him, and when she expresses her desire they are outside his own so he just shuts her down and refuses to listen. That is emotional abuse at it's core.
The thing about Tamlin that I find terrifying is he isn't evil like Amarantha or the King. He thinks he deserves Feyre, that what he's done to her is okay because it's all in the name of love and protection.
This is probably and unpopular opinion but I don't want Tamlin to be completely redeemed. I don't want Feyre to forgive him, and I'd love to see Lucien turn on him. He's also subject to Tamlin's abuse because it's the best treatment he thinks he deserves.

@Grace - I don't want Tamlin to be redeemed either. I liked the way you describe him. You put everything I feel about him into the words I wish I could have found. And yes. In his own way, he is more terrifying than Amarantha, because of the aspect. What's even scarrier.... There are real life Tamlin's out in the real world, with real life Feyre's who go through that sort of thing. I would know, as I've been in that situation before. I think that is why Maas's ACOTAR series hit me with such an impact, because she writes her characters to be relatable, in both this series, and in ToG.

Tamlin, in his own possessive way, I think he equates "love" with his greed adn desire that she fits his purposes. And like a two year old, since he sees her as his, he doesn't want anyone else to have her.

I do sincerely hope Feyre can help Lucien get out of his toxic relationship with Tamlin as well. It breaks my heart to see how he is treated, especially in ACOMAF when it became more apparent. Like the viel had dropped.
