1 - 31 March 2017

This challenge is to see if you can find all the words listed below within your reading for the month. You do not need to preselect a level.

The maximum number of words for each book is THREE. There is no page limit.

0-3 words : better luck next time
3-5 words : warming up
6-8 words : getting hotter
9-10 words : CHAMPION hunter!

March
clover
defeat
enormous
fang
mask
payment
quaint
rub
station
travel

Bonus
For our over-achievers who just need some extra words because the above weren't enough...

Unlike with the 10 words above - you must find the EXACT word to claim these bonus words, and I try to make them hard.

clippings
gaudy
hapless
mountainous
unkempt

To prove that you have found the word, please quote the page, percentage or LOC (Kindle) and include the sentence in which it appears.

Audiobooks are allowed so long as you can quote the page/%/LOC and the sentence. (Eg Using whispersync or finding that sentence in some other way.)

You must find the actual word or the word's root word must be at the core with the meaning essentially remaining the same ~ just turned into a noun, adjective, adverb etc. No prefixes or hyphenated extensions. An extension is allowed where it is often the accepted spelling eg goodbye or good-bye.

Where a word has more than one meaning, either meaning may be used. Eg coast (beachfront) or coast (moving without effort) etc

Please post all entries, updates, final posts and questions in this thread.

Jane (PS) | 25206 comments Tips for finding words - courtesy of Jennifer ♔Princess Penguin♔

Using Google books:
~Go here https://books.google.com/bkshp?hl=en&...
~Type in the name of your book
~Select your book
~On the left about midway down there will be a search bar, type your word in there.

Couple of things you need to know...
~you need to check every variety of the word you want so, let's say GROUP doesn't show up you would also need to type in GROUPS/ED/ING
~Unfortunately, 99% of the books on Google does not list page numbers (at least in my experience)

Using Amazon:
~You search for your book
~Once on your book page make sure you are on a version that is paperback or hardcover (Kindle editions will not work)
~On the left there will be a picture of your book and it should have "Search Inside" above it
~Click on the book and the search bar will be inside

You will not need to search separately for plurals but you will still need to search separately for -ed and -ing

***
You can also search for words in all the books loaded on your Kindle.

On the home page, use the 'search' function.
~ type in the word and select 'search my items'.

8/10

·CLOVER
·DEFEAT - Risky and Wild location 2740, 65% (3/6/17)
I watch as Royal and Philip exchange one, long lingering look before my dad relents and glances away first. In the language of wolves, looking away from a direct stare is akin to admitting defeat.
·ENORMOUS - Rogue Soul location 2962, 81% (3/14/17)
The story that followed was surreal. Her mind raced as he told her about an enormous party, every god from Otherworld in attendance-and she had been there with him in the forest.
·FANG - Ostrich and the 'Roo location 1415, 63% (3/1/17)
"Were you planning to have your little bird protect you? Maybe she grows great big fangs and super long claws." The J-fellow half turned in his seat and mimed a swipe of curled fingers.
·MASK - Stolen Princess location 300, 29% (3/10/17)
"She doesn't like me," I whisper, glancing at the woman behind him, who is staring daggers at me. He glances over his shoulder at her, and a sweet smile masks what was there.
·PAYMENT - A Taste of Greek location 541, 15% (3/31/17)
Hermes skimmed the text. It laid out the new fees and methods of payment. Before he modernized the ferry service, everybody had paid with coins.
·QUAINT
·RUB - His Princess location 529, 58% (3/5/17)
"What time is it?" I growl, and make another pass along my pacing route. "It's exactly fifteen seconds after you asked me the last time." He rubs his face like he thinks I'm being ridiculous.
·STATION - Trickster Blood location 480, 74% (3/2/17)
He had a demented little DJ playing through his head at the best of times, and right now the song Brownsville Station's "Smokin' in the Boy's Room". Only instead of the title chorus, his brain supplied the words as…
·TRAVEL His Princess location 333, 37% (3/5/17)
"Such a thin nightgown, my princess. Can you not afford something to cover you? Or were you wearing this for your king?" My hand travels lower this time, to the edge of her nightgown.

Bonus
3/5

·CLIPPINGS - Rogue Soul location 3415, 93% (3/14/17)
"I can feel more farther away, so I'd say we're safe to take two from the root and it won't hurt the population. Then we'll get the clippings of about a dozen.
·GAUDY - Risky and Wild location 3064, 72% (3/6/17)
I glance down at the ring he gave me, a gorgeous antique piece that's got to be at least a hundred years old. It's big and gold and red and gaudy and I love it.
·HAPLESS - A Taste of Greek location 3148, 86% (3/31/17)
"I need to leave. Now. I need to get back to Charleston." Hades raised an eyebrow, setting his fork aside. "I had no idea that Hermes was so hapless in bed that you want to leave the minute he's turned his back."
·MOUNTAINOUS
·UNKEPT

Carryovers
6/10

February
·AUTHENTIC - A Taste of Greek location 1600, 43% (3/31/17)
Was that why she'd stolen his sandals, to get tenure? Getting her hands on a pair of authentic sandals from a Greek god had to be quite the coup.
·AUTOPSY
·BLACKOUT - Ostrich and the 'Roo location 87, 5% (3/1/17)
Alas, even when she was supposed to be safe, Mari wasn't. A final dose of medicine saw her break out of her shell-enjoy her first blackout-and escape the protective custody she was in.
·DIARY - About a Dragon pg. 2 (3/25/17)
She walked around him, muttering to herself, "I'll have to write this day down in my diary."
·FARMER
·HORRORS - Rogue Soul location 2646, 72% (3/14/17)
His mind felt as trapped as his body. Worse, for all the horrors it could envision. Had Ana awoken? The memory of the blood seeping through her shirt and out from under her punched into his mind again.
·OWL
·PINEAPPLE - Trickster Blood location 553, 85% (3/2/17)
He could feel even as he turned that this wasn't the usual small screw holding the pineapple in place. It was broad, thick. All that's what she said jokes aside, he knew he was onto something.
·PREDICT - Smoke in Moonlight location 1833, 55% (3/24/17)
The dreams had warned him she could destroy him, but he hadn't expected the trap to be such a predictable one. Using a womans as a distraction to bring down a warrior was as old as time, but who waa using her?

It is so different month to month. I struggled and eventually found pineapple and chop the last day of the month. This month I have found all 15 within the first week, including hickory finally! Hard to predict. Good luck!
