Caroline (Fandoms-Unite-10) | 152 comments "Hello? Are you in there? Hurry up! I need to get ready!" A girl was standing outside a doorway, agitatedly. It was morning, and she was holding a stack of clothes. "Come on, already! Are you quite ready?" Then she heard faint sobbing coming from inside the room. "Are you...all right?" The crying continued. There was some shuffling coming from inside, and then another girl came out from the room. She looked like she'd been crying all night. "Oh! Whatever's the matter?" But the other girl just ran down the hallway. A scream then came from somewhere below. It sounded like a little girl's shriek, but who knows? Our person, let's call her Annie, ran downstairs.
"I'm not sure what you're looking for, so I can't help you-" someone was saying. Another, more frantic voice, responded with, "Come on! This is a matter of life and death for more than just one person! Find it!"
"But, ma'am, you still haven't told me about the item in question..."
There was a crash, and Annie, who was almost to the kitchen, turned around. Someone was standing there, with a backpack in his hands. He shook his head, as if shaking off a thought, and then screamed, "Wait! Come here!" Two people stormed out of one of the hallways, a young woman and an old one. "Thank goodness...." The younger one was saying. "Get your phone and text Cecelia...tell her we've found it."
"Do what? What's a phone? Who's Cecelia?" Another person, a young boy, maybe five, walked in from the kitchen. Annie didn't recognize him. The older woman seemed to suddenly realize something, and looked startled. "Wait, where's-"
"Oh, they're all out...mini golfing!" The other young girl said quickly, and then she and the young man walked out of the room. The boy and the woman went into the kitchen, but Annie followed the others. They went through a door and then she heard their voices. Annie pressed her ear to the closed door and listened intently.
"I know you don't want that to happen. That's why we're doing this, isn't it? To get them to say their goodbyes?"
"But..."
"Technically, yes."
"You knew what I was thinking? Well, I was just going to say....." The young lady took a deep sigh and sounded as if she were trying not to burst out crying. "It seemed to be right. But....how will it affect everything in the future? If he knows?"
"Well, before they take her in for questioning, we could do this." There was a crash, and Annie couldn't help but wonder what the heck they were talking about. She knew these people, they lived in the same house she did. Why were they acting so strange?
"Well, I don't think the chemical reactions with a chicken salad with have anything to do with the color of the unicorn horn on your granddaughter's first birthday cake."
"What?" Then, another crash ensued from the kitchens, and a string of words one should never use together followed.
"We've got to go. They'd have taken them from the park by now."
"Good luck?"
"Good luck, and let's hope neither of them die." There was a sound of another door closing, leaving Annie to wonder what in the world her friends were planning on doing.

Caroline (Fandoms-Unite-10) | 152 comments "Fay, listen to me! They're /lying/ to you!" Phoenix was struggling against the ropes that held her to chair in the testing room. Her clothes and hair were bloodstained, and her wrists were burning from straining against the bonds. Fay was keeping watch over her while Phoenix's DNA test results were being processed. Some part of Phoenix was excited; she was finally going to find out who she was, and /what/ she was.
"How naïve can you possibly be, Phoenix?" Fay leaned against the wall and glared at her. She wore a yellow military uniform for initiates, and her black hair was in a braid. "People aren't supposed to be able to do what you can do. You're a danger to us, a danger that needs to be concealed. People can't know about you, or they'll start believing lies. Do you know why I was put in charge of finding you?" The other girl was walking toward her, leering menacingly.
Phoenix had heard this speech before. "Oh, because of your dear dead mother, who-" Fay slapped her.
"Don't talk about my mother. God only knows who yours was." As Fay was turning back around, the door was pushed open and one of the black-clad officials came in, gun raised and pointed at Phoenix.
"Don't try to run, girl. We know who you are." Phoenix sighed. "Um, I can't exactly run. I'm tied to a chair, so...."
The official ignored this. "Your blood was more than helpful. We already suspected that you were a Shadowhunter or a demigod, but it turns out that you're both."
"What? I'm confused. Can you run that by me again?" A strand of hair kept brushing Phoenix's cheek, and she was trying to blow it away, not really listening.
The official lowered his gun, but didn't holster it. "That doesn't /matter/. What really bothered us was this." The corners of the official's mouth turned up in a sneer. "There was....another vial, of another person's blood that we wanted to compare with yours. The name was 3467." Nearby, Fay gave a little gasp.
"You didn't test them to see if they were related, did you?" Fay had gone pale, and her fists were clenched. She obviously knew about whoever 3467 was.
"We did, actually. And it came up a match. Phoenix's parents were both part human....and both of them are supposed to be dead."
"Sir, that's not possible. I know that 3467 survived, but who's Phoenix's other parent? We can try familial DNA testing, surely, or-"
"Quiet, Fay." The official' stone was terse. He was getting impatient. "Phoenix's mother was the same person that killed your mother. Surely you figured that out?"
Phoenix looked at Fay, and Fay looked at her. Then, as realization came across both of their faces, the other girl broke into a run, and launched herself at Phoenix.
Phoenix's hands were bound, and she couldn't knee Fay, because her feet were tied too tightly to the posts of the chair. She was forced to go with it as the chair was knocked backward into the wall. She hit her head, and the edges of her vision started to go blurry. If that wasn't enough, when Phoenix looked up, Fay punched her square in the jaw. The last thing she saw was the official, laughing, walking towards her.
