Here are some examples for some characters and their roles.

Working class Townsfolk
As a community, the townsfolk have jobs to keep the small town running. Occupation may only be an option and are small-time. Ever since the disappearances, less business have been operating since townsfolk are leaving due to fear.
• Police
• Bakers
• Fishermen
• Teachers
Etc...

Unemployed
A vast majority of the Esdon are unemployed as they are either children, take care of their own family or are too old or busy for a job.
• Children
• Students
• Elderly
Etc...

Tourists, Foreigners and Visitors
Esdon has been on the list of one of the appealing small towns in Iceland and hence been a popular tourist destination. Nearly a quarter of the town's population is made up of foreigners as they found the Esdon lifestyle quite suitable for themselves. Since the disappearances begun, many foreign detectives and overseas students came to study and investigate in Esdon.
• Detectives
• Tourist
• Student from Abroad
• Townsfolk from Neighbouring Towns
Etc...

Also, there are certain looks for Icelandic people (if you are choosing to have your character from the Icelandic background). They tend to be quite pale (white)--or have an "Asian" kind of appearance (which is more of a 'native' look.)
