The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963
The Watson Go to Birmingham is a great book. It’s a family book. This novel shows the ups and downs of a family. How they get through those ups and downs is shown throughout the entirety of the book.

Christopher Paul Curtis shows the flaws of some of the main characters in this novel. Kenny, the main character is a great person but he is a little on the weird side. He doesn't have many friends until this kid Rufus moves into Flint, Michigan. They link up well because they are both a bit raggedy and weird. Kenny’s brother, Byron is a good kid but he tries to act cool all the time and gets into trouble because of it. His best friend, Buphead, is another bad kid who gets Byron in more trouble.

Curtis does a great job of showing how the Watsons get over these problems as a family. Kenny realizes that his family is everything and that he should spend as much time as he should with them. Byron realizes that Kenny is his best friend who he should treat way better than he does. This is a great book and I would love to see the movie on it.
