Yes, I'll be creating April's task list soon!

So... maybe I'll "cheat" and prepare some answers ahead of time for the days I'll be traveling...
When it says, "Read 18 (or 20 or 16) pages total," does that mean you're supposed to read exactly that many pages and no more? Or is reading more than the designated number acceptable? I wouldn't want to limit myself :-P

Erin, you absolutely have to stop at the exact # of pages listed, even if you are in the middle of a sentence or word.
(ducks the big book that Erin throws at me for being a wise-a$$)

That means read AT LEAST that many pages but of course read on if you like! ;-) I see now that my wording could mislead...thanks for asking to clear that up.

Whew! This was quite a commitment, but I persisted! Time to remove the spoiler as it's finally DONE!!!
MARCH 1: read 12 pages in the book nearest you
Read 31 pages in What She Knew (2:45pm)
MARCH 2: book with a yellow cover
One of my current reads (6:40am)
MARCH 3: read 16 pages total
Read 26 pages in Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood (11:55am)
MARCH 4: book you wish you could read again for the first time
(6:35am) This one is tough for me because subsequent readings of a book allow me to pick up on details overlooked in previous readings, so I've never been averse to rereads.
I suppose perhaps it would be interesting to tackle the entire Harry Potter series again for the first time (though I had to read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows twice to fully wrap my head around the ending)
MARCH 5: read a short poem
Read "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost (6:05am)
MARCH 6: quote from a book you're reading
“You just have to let people love you in the way they can." ~ Tibby Rollins, Sisterhood Everlasting (8am)
"I began to realize that coming in such close contact with my own mortality had changed both nothing and everything. Before my cancer was diagnosed, I knew that someday I would die, but I didn’t know when. After the diagnosis, I knew that someday I would die, but I didn’t know when. But now I knew it acutely... The fact of death is unsettling. Yet there is no other way to live." ~ Paul Kalanithi, When Breath Becomes Air (1pm)
MARCH 7: favorite book from childhood
(8:10am) The first book that came to mind was One Summer by Mary Beach and Carol Beach York, though I have fond memories of so many...
I'm actually planning to pick a month this year to reread some books from my youth (The Secret Garden, Charlotte's Web, The Trumpet Of The Swan, Harriet the Spy, Island of the Blue Dolphins, James and the Giant Peach, A Wrinkle in Time... I could go on and on!)
MARCH 8: preference: hardcover or paperback?
eBook!!! Though if I absolutely must choose between hardcover and paperback, I'd go with paperback (6:40am)
MARCH 9: read 12-19 pages total
Read 25 pages in Gone with the Wind (8:45am)
MARCH 10: book COVER that makes you feel cold

Honestly, I don't think there's a single book cover that could make me feel cold. But in addition to the cover of this one, the title and the content (they endure 7 months of blizzard after blizzard after blizzard with temperatures at -40) convey coldness. I mean, this book is downright freezing! (10:30am)
MARCH 11: book with a flower on the cover
(6:45am)
MARCH 12: book that makes you feel hungry
Farmer Boy!!! Almanzo is almost always hungry and I swear half the book focuses on the foods he eats or wants to eat. It actually made me so hungry that I looked up a recipe for Bird's Nest Pudding, one of the many foods mentioned. Sadly, it wasn't very good :-/ (6:10am)
MARCH 13: top 3 books on your TBR
(7:15am) Let's see, how to interpret this...
Books that have been on my TBR list longest:
1. Out of the Silent Planet
2. Dust
3. Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography
Top rated books on my TBR list:
1. The Wise Man's Fear (4.57) - But I'll only read this if a publication date for the final book is confirmed
2. We Were the Lucky Ones (4.48)
3. Golden Son (4.46) - But I need to read Red Rising first
The 3 I'm most eager to read right now:
1. Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography - I'm rereading the original Little House books first
2. The Handmaid's Tale - I'm #2 on the library wait list
3. A Dog's Purpose - I'm #11 on the library wait list :-(
MARCH 14: HARDER: book with a dragon on the cover
(6:05am)
MARCH 15: best bookish quote
(7:05am) "So many books, so little time." - Frank Zappa
MARCH 16: favorite villain
Though I haven't finished the book yet, I'd have to go with Rhett Butler...
“Do I mean so much to you?” she questioned, dropping her eyelids.
“Well, yes. You see, I’ve invested a good deal of money in you, and I’d hate to lose it.”
(6:20am)
MARCH 17: read 18 pages total
Read 12 pages in The Zookeeper's Wife: A War Story (7:10am)
Read 10 pages in Insurgent (7:20am)
MARCH 18: read a short article in a magazine
(6:30am) Best I can do today...
That 'Big Bang Theory' Spinoff About Young Sheldon Is Officially Happening, Huffington Post, Sara Boboltz, 3/14/2017
MARCH 19: book made into a movie
Haven't seen the movie, but I loved the book ~ Still Alice (10:50am)
MARCH 20: book COVER that makes you think of Spring
(7:55am)
MARCH 21: book you didn't finish
The most recent one... The Wild Robot (6:50am)

MARCH 23: best drink/snack pairing for reading
Milk and cookies are always good! (6:10am)
MARCH 24: read 20 pages total
Read 26 pages in Insurgent (7:20am)
MARCH 25: what book can't you wait to get back to?
I'm not currently reading a book I'm eager to devour.... but I can't wait to finish my reread of the Little House books so I can start Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography (6:15am)
MARCH 26: read 18 pages total
Read 35 pages in The Time Traveler's Wife (8:10pm)
MARCH 27: book COVER that scares you
(6:00am) I am more terrified of snakes than anything else on the face of the earth. I can't even stand the sight of them in pictures. So... I googled "books with snakes on the cover" and came up with this:
MARCH 28: book you've read more than once
Most recently, The Long Winter (6:15am)
MARCH 29: favorite author
Michael Crichton!!! (6:00am)
MARCH 30: HARDER: book with a spider on the cover
(6:40am) I take my son to storytime at the library every Monday and they use this book when we practice animal sounds.
MARCH 31: book you can't put down right now
Well... I'm only reading 3 books at the moment:
-Insurgent is a reread so, since I know what happens, I'm not devouring it like I did the first time around.
-I just started Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, and Everything in Between last night and haven't gotten very far, so it hasn't hooked me (yet).
-I'm loving The Time Traveler's Wife and this would be my answer, except that I do, in fact, need to put it down for a bit because I can't handle all the feels. I need some time to recover before I tackle the end! (7:05am)
Now that I've had a chance to get into Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, and Everything in Between, that's my answer. I'm hooked! (7:10pm)

Now that I've had a chance to get into Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, and Everything in Between, that's my answer. I'm hooked! (7:10pm)
Here's mine!MARCH 1: read 12 pages in the book nearest you
Done! I read 28 pages of The Bean Trees, and finished the book.
MARCH 2: book with a yellow cover
This has been on my TBR forever!
MARCH 3: read 16 pages total
I've read 60 pages of History of Wolves today.
MARCH 4: book you wish you could read again for the first time
Like Erin said, this is hard for me too, because I love rereading books, especially classics. But if I had to choose, I'd probably go with Lafayette in the Somewhat United States. I read it really quickly, and I wish I took my time with it, because Lafayette is my favorite historical figure ever, and I feel like, because I read it so fast, I didn't really retain a lot from it.
MARCH 5: read a short poem
I reread "The Waking" by Theodore Roethke, my favorite poet. I had to write a ten page analysis on this poem sophomore year of college, and I haven't read it since. It's cool to see all my notes on it, from 5 years ago!
MARCH 6: quote from a book you're reading
"I remember wanting the morning to slow down, slow down. I wanted the morning to hold still, to take its time coming in." -History of Wolves
"There was the natural human survival instinct to be optimistic." -Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea
MARCH 7: favorite book from childhood
Talking about my super childhood, I LOVED The Baby Unicorn, so much so that I would have my grandmother read it to me constantly. She finally got so sick of the book that she told me she was going to teach me to read it myself, and she did! At 3 1/2 I was reading on my own, all thanks to my grandmother, and her hatred for that book!
MARCH 8: preference: hardcover or paperback?
Paperback, definitely! I call myself a bad book mom, because I love when books get beat up. I like taking notes, marking the pages, carrying them around with me, seeing them get used. I almost always buy used books because I love that they already have stories (I've found notes, train tickets, postcards), and hard copy books tend to seem impersonal to me. Is that weird..? Hahaha.
MARCH 9: read 12-19 pages total
I actually read exactly 19 pages, from History of Wolves.
MARCH 10: book COVER that makes you feel cold
I'm reading this right now, and it's definitely chilling.
MARCH 11: book with a flower on the cover
I LOVE this book.
MARCH 12: book that makes you feel hungry
I love this book, and immediately thought of this when I read our task. It focuses on Claire Waverly who has magic, and infuses it with the food she makes. The book focuses on food a lot, and all the descriptions always made me hungry!
MARCH 13: top 3 books on your TBR
I have over 400 books on my TBR, and can't possibly pick my "top 3" so instead I'm doing the first three listed. They Thirst, The Lodger, and Rebecca, though I've already seen the movie :)
MARCH 14: HARDER: book with a dragon on the cover
MARCH 15: best bookish quote
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.” -George R.R. Martin
MARCH 16: favorite villain
Well, when I was a kid and read comics, I LOVED Loki and the Joker from the Thor and Batman comics! But my favorite classic villain is Count Fosco, from The Woman in White! He's smart, witty, and, perhaps my favorite part, his plan is thwarted by a woman, and instead of getting incredibly angry, he respects her and her intellect so much that he lets her get away with it, when he could have easily sent her to an asylum.
MARCH 17: read 18 pages total
Done. I read 27 pages of Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea.
MARCH 18: read a short article in a magazine
I read "Prints Charming" in the March issue of InStyle. It's all about Diane von Furstenberg and Jonathan Saunders, who she chose to become the Chief Creative Officer of her brand last year. It was really interesting to read because as someone who loves fashion (and DVF), but doesn't know the detailed in and outs of fashion houses, it was eye opening. Saunders was specifically chosen because of his work with prints, and the fact that he designs for strong, individual women, which is DVF's modus operandi.
MARCH 19: book made into a movie
The Great Gatsby..my favorite!
MARCH 20: book COVER that makes you think of Spring
The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen.
MARCH 21: book you didn't finish
The Postmistress by Sarah Blake. For whatever reason, I haven't been able to get into it, and I've tried three times! Maybe I'll force myself to stick with it this year..
MARCH 22: book someone recommended
MARCH 23: best drink/snack pairing for reading
Chocolate and tea :)
MARCH 24: read 20 pages total
I read 20 pages out of Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea.
MARCH 25: what book can't you wait to get back to?
The Velva Jean series! Next on my list is Velva Jean Learns to Fly. I just haven't been able to get around to it yet.
MARCH 26: read 18 pages total
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get to this one! I was with friends all day, and by the time I got home, I was so tired that I pretty much changed into pajamas, brushed my teeth, and fell asleep.
MARCH 27: book COVER that scares you
always scared me when I was a kid. I never liked Dummy's, and for whatever reason, in the furniture store in my town, they always had a Dummy propped in a chair, slightly askew, staring out the window, which freaked me out. Of course, they aren't scary now, but I hated them as a kid!MARCH 28: book you've read more than once
I generally read this once ever year or two. I find the humor to be really funny, and whenever I read it, I always get something new out of it.
MARCH 29: favorite author
I honestly have a ton, like Wilkie Collins, Kristina McMorris, JD Salinger, etc, but my all time favorite is F. Scott Fitzgerald. I read a book or short story of his at least once a year, and have a copy of every single thing that was ever published. For some things I have two copies!
MARCH 30: HARDER: book with a spider on the cover
I'm severely arachnophobic, so here's a cover where the spider is extremely tiny! Right in the middle of the O, there.
MARCH 31: book you can't put down right now
by Kristina McMorris. It's not a thrilling read, but it's fun, and I want to know where the story is going, so it's so hard for me not to read it!
MARCH 1: Read 36 pages of Fire Color OneMARCH 2: book with a yellow cover -
MARCH 3: read 16 pages total - Read 24 pages of Starfall
MARCH 4: book you wish you could read again for the first time Night Road

So...StarMan and I are working out the details for how to reward you all for taking the time out of your busy lives to participate so wholeheartedly in these Daily Book Tasks!
I haven't decided if I will do one of these every month, but I'm planning on one for April. If we have enough participation, we'll try to start some kind of giveaway where everyone who participated for that month will be entered in a random drawing for a prize! It might be a book StarMan or I have to give away or it might be something else, we're working on that!
I thought this thread would be empty for a while but I'm so pleased to see your progress and enthusiasm! ;-) If you have some ideas/suggestions, please let us know!
Also, I'm trying to upload an actual calendar so you can print it out or download it for quick access to the daily tasks! Please be patient, I'm working on it and hope I figure it out soon!

I can't speak for everyone, but it's reward enough to be able to participate in this cool challenge and seeing what everyone else is reading. I hope we can do these every month. I need the motivation to finish some books rather than let them linger. I also love the small tasks such as listing quotes and books as that gets me reminiscing about past books that I really enjoyed and would recommend to others.
Being among fellow readers is also a great reward. Keep up the great work, Snail mods and book lovers!

Kudos to your grandmother for giving you a great reading experience, Kelsey! What a cool grandma!
You will like The Help. I loved the different narrative voices. Pages will fly by, trust me!
I love paperback and hardcovers for the same reason you gave. I find pieces of other people's lives (school notes, plane ticket, etc.) I always wonder what circumstance made them read the book then give it up.
Keep up the good work!

I was thinking of randomly posting a task in this thread throughout the week. Let me know if y'all are interested. Just thought this would be a good way to spice up the challenge in case any of the tasks are giving y'all trouble.

She was! She taught me how to play the piano too! :)
A few summers ago, I picked up 1984 at a yard sale, and found a train ticket in it from the 60's, on a one way trip from PA to NY, which cost the person $6.50. They must have been reading that book on the train, which I think is really cool.
Just last week, I ordered a used copy of The Edge of Lost and when I was looking through it, I found a card from a woman named Chrissy, which was addressed to her parents. She had surprised them one weekend by flying to Alabama to visit, and on her way back, she found that book at the airport. She was so excited to give it to her mom, and said that she'd knew she would enjoy it. This was in 2014, and I almost feel bad, because Chrissy was so excited to give it to her mom, and three years later, I have it!

That goes to show there is a story in every story, literally! That is so cool! I like new books, but when I buy used ones, I flip through the pages to see if anyone left a surprise (bookmark, something that says something about them, etc.)

Once I found an airport bookstore receipt. I wondered at how expensive the books are compared to Amazon. I always look for the cheapest deal if possible.
Kudos to everyone that is participating and updating their tasks! You guys rock as do my fellow co-mods!
I just got my books from Thriftbooks that I ordered last week. I found a bookmark in Isaac's Storm by Eric Larson. I must be such a nerd getting excited over this. Lol

Granted, Daily Book Tasks are for the REALLY ambitious book lovers among us, who take the time every day to participate in little bookish tasks. (They're not--usually--hard tasks, but they do require a little creativity and sleuthing, and a whole lot of commitment to complete the whole month!)
Lots of bookish people on the internet challenge themselves every day to read a certain number of pages, identify/locate a book with certain physical characteristics, or just answer a simple question related to books/reading, etc.
*For example, on March 1 someone might challenge themselves to read 12 pages in their current book club read.
*On March 2 they might challenge themselves to locate a book on their shelves (or on any shelf) with a certain cover color.
*On March 3, they might challenge themselves to read a short poem.
There's a different challenge for each day of the month.
I thought I'd post at least one month (March 2017) for anyone who wants to challenge themselves in a completely different way!
Note: keep in mind that the tasks that say "book with _________ on cover" aren't asking you to read them, just identify/locate one! Also, you can request a thread to keep track of your progress and I'll set one up for you, or you can just keep track on your own!
