Let the planning begin!

Valerie Brown | 3291 comments I understand (from the sign up thread gossip.. ha, ha..) that Tien is very organized - so unless anyone else is keen, I hope she will whip us into shape.

Unfortunately, today has been a very long day - so I am hitting the hay early. I'll leave you all with this info to do with as you will:

I have books picked out for all tasks, except: 10.1, 7, 8, 9, + 10 and 20.7, 9. You can see my AotD plan in that thread, I am starting at 2006, and already have the book out of the library.

Generally, I am a fast reader but i would advise against assigning me 20.2 because I've picked The Count of Monte Cristo + that is a real chunkster.

Hopefully, that will help you get started.

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments Hi Team members....

I guess I'll start and let you know which categories I think I will be finishing in March: 10.2; 20.1; 20.4; 20.5; 20.6; 20.8; 20.10 and probably 4 of the AotD books. I also have three books scoped out that would fit into the Square peg right now.... but who knows what will happen when the other categories are revealed.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2600 comments I have books for 10.2, 10.3, 10.5, Group read, 20.2, 20.4, 20.5, 20,6, 20.8 as well as books for 15.1-15.4 for the subchallenge

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments Hiii, team mates!! *waves*

So yes I've been hanging around all morning for this lol
Have been picking out my books for the other tasks too... oh, the possibilities :)

Happy to help organise the planning; I think you may have seen that I'm a little OCD with that part of the challenge but if anyone else would like to put their hands up, I'm good with it too.

So far, I think I'm going to have a problem with 20.4 (Greece) so bags not completing that task.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2600 comments I have a book planned for 20.4 The Illegal Gardener The only issue if my library has it.

Go for it Tien!

message 8: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments hahaha, I'll come back and list the tasks & any of your preferred ones noted in above comments.

Looks like we have at least 8 AotD books already and I'm picking a few of mine from the library tomorrow though am time-travelling and there seems to be a delay with my second book (1 borrowed & 1 overdue) so not sure when I'll get that.

message 9: by Ed (new)

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments I have When the Tree Sings slated for 20.4

message 10: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Brown | 3291 comments ok, not in bed yet! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who was waiting with baited breath..... ha, ha...

Looking forward to the plan.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments I think I'm starting with 20.8 though I probably won't start reading til the weekend; just got to finish my current read which I can't fit in (YA but no lexile).

Reading Allusions in Ulysses: An Annotated List by Weldon Thornton

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2600 comments Tien, I can do "Me Before You" for task 10.3. I have to finish my previous book.

message 19: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments wow, that looks like a tough read, Ed!

My AotD is all true crime books (1 award) so I'm trying to avoid any other NF for the other tasks. Have to do at least 1 though, 20.3.

message 20: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments If anyone else has any not preferred to do task, please let me know and I'll note them down as well :)

message 25: by Cory Day (new)

Cory Day (cors36) | 1205 comments Hi guys - I'm a little behind on planning after taking a season off, but I'll prioritize whatever tasks you need. I do have the sub challenge planned (I think) but haven't really picked anything specific for anything else. The only thing that might hinder my progress generally is that I've committed to myself to read one book by a non-white author for every one I read by a white author, but I should be able to make that work pretty easily with most of the categories.

message 26: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments Hi Cory Day, welcome back :)

Not to worry, the first few tasks will be fairly easygoing. It'll be the last handful that may be a little more strict with who's doing which but many hands make light work.

Just let me know when you're ready, which task you'd like to start with :)

Valerie Brown | 3291 comments Hey gang.... yay for good night's sleep!

I have started 15.1 Lakeside Cottage This is for a 2006 prize.

I thought I understood the new rule about the 15s (for this group challenge), but then yesterday in my sleep deprived haze I thought I didn't. Are we (as a group) able to post through the 15s without regard to the year + prize? This probably should be confirmed.

BTW - I should have said that I expect to be finished this book on the weekend.

Just wanted to pop by and confirm this. To complete the team mega, as a team you need to post ANY 10 15-point tasks.

Thanks, Kate! I really was in a haze yesterday! Now we can forge ahead.

message 30: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments btw, I just realised that I can claim my YA book for the Circus task (no styles because no lexile) so I've pencilled myself in for that unless someone's got their eyes on that task. I expect to finish tomorrow as it's review copy & review is due tomorrow, just fyi.

Okay, good!

message 32: by Cory Day (new)

Cory Day (cors36) | 1205 comments I started a book on my plan for Awards of the Decade (Adios to My Old Life). I've chosen an easy path this time for the 15 point tasks, so I can probably contribute a lot to that. I also just requested my Group Reads book from the library, so once I get that I can start. I haven't planned much more beyond that still ;)

message 33: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Brown | 3291 comments That's good, Cory. I was going to say, earlier, that the group reads are often hard for me to accomplish due to lack of availability in our little library.

I have to laugh - at myself. IRL I don't participate in competitive sports, games... or whatever. However, sign myself up for a reading challenge and oh my..... I'm quite disappointed that I didn't choose to read a short, quickie so we could be on the board. Ha, ha... I know - I'm totally ridiculous.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments Valerie wrote: "That's good, Cory. I was going to say, earlier, that the group reads are often hard for me to accomplish due to lack of availability in our little library..."

Ditto on both points, Valerie!

message 35: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments I've claimed completion on 10.5 Circus and updated post #12.

I've also noted Cory Day for 1 AotD book & 10.10 (group read).

I've picked up half of my AotD books from the library yesterday but not sure when I can start those as I've got read along for The Hunchback of Notre-Dame starting this weekend. It's been spread out over 4 weeks with about 100+ pages per week so I should still be able to fit in shorter reads in between. I have started my 20.8 book & should finish sometime next week.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2600 comments I finished my previous book and I am going to start "Me Before You"

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "I finished my previous book and I am going to start "Me Before You""

Hey um, I saw that you posted for 10.2 but that task requires book title to have 3, 4, or 5 words. Orphan Train only has 2 words in title. You can use this for 10.3 though which is where you've slotted "Me Before You"?

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2600 comments Sigh, I thought there was a The in the title. You can more it to 10.3. I still plan on reading "Me Before You"

message 39: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments ok, I'll do that. Maybe we can still fit 'Me Before You' with the other tasks which haven't been posted yet :)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments Oh Jayme, would you like to pick another task you're reading next?

message 41: by Bea (new)

Bea Butting gently in to ask if Jayme's two books could be exchanged. Orphan Train to 10.3 and Me Before You to 10.2?

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2600 comments That would work

message 43: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments Thanks, Bea, but Ed is working on 10.2 for now :)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2600 comments Bea wrote: "Butting gently in to ask if Jayme's two books could be exchanged. Orphan Train to 10.3 and Me Before You to 10.2?"

I will read "Me Before You" for task 10.2

message 45: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Brown | 3291 comments I've just put a hold on "Clouds of Witness" in the library's ebook system. Yay for Don for picking a group read I can actually get! Cory has claimed that task for our purposes, but I can be a back up in case something goes awry at her library.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2600 comments After I read Me before you, I will read the kitchen God's wife for the foundation task

message 47: by Ed (new)

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments I posted my book for 10.2 this morning. Next will be Far from the Madding Crowd for 20.1.

Also Tien, I know you will understand, my latest bookopoly move indicates that A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah should be read...and it fits into 20.3.

message 48: by Valerie (last edited Mar 03, 2017 12:45PM) (new)

Valerie Brown | 3291 comments I just posted 15.1 Lakeside Cottage

I am going to read 20.10 Mapp and Lucia next, then 20.9 Rocket to Limbo- so that we have them out of the way.

I'm going to get my books for 15.2, and 20.4 out of the library this afternoon. I'm not sure of the order I will read them in yet. I'll update when I decide.

Then, I may have to take a quick break to read a 10.2 because it sets me up for a book I have in the 15s.

Jayme, Ed was slotted to complete task 10.2 and has posted his completion a few hour ago. By all means, finish reading Me Before You for your own 10.2 :) I've put you down for 20.5 Foundation.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3115 comments @Ed: I've put you down for 20.1 & 20.3

@Valerie: I've put you down for 20.10 & 20.9

Let's leave the rest to see how Cory is going plus Don also has not checked in yet so he hasn't pick any preferred task. Let's hope he checks in over the weekend. Is anyone here 'friends' (on GR) with Don?
