Lanelle | 462 comments Each month we will read a public domain book in a certain genre, about a particular subject, or by an specific author. Report which book or story you've decided to read. Feel free to discuss what you're reading and the author's writing style. Don't forget to leave a review of your selected work.

Here in the United States, St. Patrick's Day is the 17th of March. It is a day to celebrate being Irish. We could also celebrate by reading a book by an Irish author!

Here are a few Irish author that I can think of:
Oscar Wilde
Jonathan Swift
Oliver Goldsmith
Bram Stoker
Sheridan Le Fanu
Edith Somerville
George Bernard Shaw
L.T. Meade
Margaret Wolfe Hungerford

If you know of other Irish authors, please add to the list!

I tend to forget about poetry. Thanks for the reminder.

Sawako, I'm interested if you liked She Stoops to Conquer. I've heard of it, but I don't know much about it.

The play is good for a quick read. I liked it. It was easy to understand and funny. The Librivox readers did a great job. If you don't mind listening to different accents, give the play a try on Librivox.

Azuma-chan | 49 comments I didn't know Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker & George Bernard Shaw were Irish. I read Stocker's Dracula in January, I think I'll read another one from him this month as well.

Dracula is on my TBR list. Did you decide what book are you going to read by Stoker?

Azuma-chan | 49 comments Oh, I didn't know you fancy vampires too. I bought this long time ago. It's in Arabic - I think I'll read انتقام دراكيولا next. You?!

Well, I don't. But a few people recommended the book to me. So, I thought I will give it a try one day. Could you tell me the book's name in English? I haven't decided yet. I want to finish the book that I am currently reading.

I see. I'm not sure cause the ones I have are really small, I mean the number of pages on goodreads don't match with the one I"m reading. Maybe, it was one big book then they divided it to many small ones. But I think it's Just (Dracula) in English - that I"m reading in many books.

Lanelle | 462 comments I decided to read a book by L.T. Meade. I had already read another book by her, Good Luck. I didn't like it very much. But I wanted to give the author another chance.

I read Dumps, A Plain Girl. I only liked this story a little bit more than the first. It is about a plain girl, her two younger brothers that endlessly talk about her ugliness, her absent-minded and neglectful father, and the woman that he marries without telling the kids beforehand.

I think the reason that the book was saved from being rated as 1 star, is that it was written in first person. It was interesting to hear Dumps' thoughts and feelings.
