question
Gemma or Lyra?

Before reading this book I heard a lot of readers say that they enjoyed Lyra's story much more that Gemma's. They said that Lyra was involved in a new world that the reader wanted to learn more about.
After reading the book myself, I felt as though Gemma's story was more engulfing. When I would read Gemma's sections, I would want to continue reading her story. But for Lyra's sections I would want to just get through them to get back to Gemma. I also felt as though Gemma's story was more telling and is where the reader could gain the most information about what was going on.
I just wanted to see who everyone else enjoyed more, Gemma or Lyra?

I liked both perspectives. There might have been more happening relating to information and action in Gemma's story but I enjoyed Lyra more as a character, I liked watching her discover the real world and her relationship with 72/Caelum.
I enjoyed Lyra's story better than Gemma's. Lyra was a better developed character with a purpose to pursue, and she was learning throughout her story. Gemma was more of a supporting background character without a mission.
I originally expected I would be able to relate more to Gemma since she is more ingrained in society instead of being separated from daily life for so long, but I was wrong!
Reading the book not alternating chapters, and starting with Lyra's perspective could have swayed my opinion since she was the first character I knew in the book.
