This was an interesting transition from the beach and had some interesting glimpses to what was ahead.

YES! I have so many questions now about this world that has 'moved on'!
SPOILERS for this section:
The idea that the godlike Bear is not "natural" but partially robotic was really interesting too.
The scene where Eddie just destroys all those little robots actually moved me. It is probably the most emotional reaction I've had while reading in the past little while. I'm not really sure what it is about the little robots that I found really touching.

When I was a teenager, I was really into the tv show "Lost". I'm probably barking up the wrong tree but I can't help but notice that as I read more of Stephen Kings works I'm seeing a lot of similarities between them. The scene with the bear is (to me at least) reminiscent of the a scene in the pilot episode. A character on the show named "Charlie Pace" is extremely similar to Eddie Dean. He struggles with an addiction to Heroine, has brother issues, etc. I know it's a stretch but it was just a thought.
Anyway, I know I'm behind a little but I'm really enjoying this series and I'm glad I have an outlet where I can discuss it :)

I never made that connection to the mech-bear Shardik and the polar bear in the pilot! That certainly seems like an apt comparison to draw. I think that the Eddie/Charlie similarity is palpable. I get the sense that Charlie is sort of a combination of Eddie Dean and Larrry Underwood (from the Stand).
I know for a fact that the writing team of Cuse and Lindelof were influenced by Stephen King's works (most notably The Stand). I would be shocked if it turned out that The Dark Tower didn't serve as an inspiration for certain elements of the show, whether consciously or otherwise.
In fact, Ben Linus can be seen reading a copy (looks like a first edition) of The Gunslinger in one of the mid-series episodes.
I don't think it's necessarily as much of a stretch as you might have thought.
