Alternate History, Imagined Futures discussion

In Man in the High Castle, Philip K. Dick suggests that if the Nazis had won, they would have made great technological advances in a much shorter time, possibly because of their disregard for ethics in science. Specifically, Dick has the Nazis colonizing Mars in the 1960s. What do you think? If there was a WW2 axis victory, would we be living in a more technologically advanced society?

Have you seen the Amazon pilot for MHC yet? I put a review up for it and the novel on my blog. I think the pilot did a better job with character than the book, but the novel may be more grounded in the post-WWII setting.
