Poetry Writing Contests discussion

So I don't have infinite knowledge of holidays, so if there are any not-so-common holidays you want to make sure are included in contests, just let me know the holiday and date here, and I'll gladly do it :)

Here's a list of the holidays I'm planning to do so far (I'm not sure I included them all, it's pretty late here xP) I'm really limited in the holidays I know because my whole family is Catholic, so those of you from other religions, say something so I don't leave your holidays out!

Sure, it'll just be anything about independence, not even necessarily about our country's independence. (Psst, it would actually be August 2nd, the day the Declaration of Independence was officially done being signed by representatives from each state).

I think for the kinda bigger holidays like Christmas you should leave it more open because there are lots of aspects to it but still give a suggested focus

That's a good idea, since there's soooo many things each major holiday is associated with.

what about Hanukkah

Yeah, I'm working on finding some of those to do (that's why Holi and Cinco de Mayo are up there :P), if you want to find any and the dates of them, that would be great :)

Maybe Lent? (I know it's a little late to run a contest for it this year). The theme could be sacrifice. :)
Or Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Theme idea: "I Have A Dream"

Other ideas:
The summer or winter solstices. Theme: change, seasons
Women's equality day. Themes: equality, sexism, progress
Black Friday (lol). theme: commercialism
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Themes: War, memorial

Yeah I was thinking about doing Lent but it's a little late, but thanks for all those ideas, I'll be adding them to the list as soon as I'm off the app and on my laptop

The only other holiday from another country I an think of off the top of my head is Bastille Day-July 14. It's Frances equivalent of America's fourth of july
