Prism
I see life through a prism.
My first pair
Of glasses
Had a red frame.
(They were always breaking, but I don't remember why.
Am I blocking something out? Forgetting the pain?)
The protagonist in my first favorite series
Was an orange cat.
(Those books got me through
The heartbreak and isolation)
I offered a yellow balloon
To the adults of the house,
Attempting to stop the fight.
(I didn't know, then,
That not everything was so easily fixed)
It's been said that envy is green.
Well, then,
I am verdant.
(I still struggle
Not to feel inferior)
Blue is
The color of the house I grew up in
(Where I longed for love,
Only to learn about hate)
Indigo and violet--shades of purple,
They were my favorite colors.
(Back before innocence was lost)
I see life through a prism.
My first pair

Had a red frame.

I said
I said there was darkness every day
You said there was always light
I said the weather never changed
And you ranted on about the rainbows, the rainbows every afternoon
I said it was too damn cold
You held me close until I sighed and
Tucked my head into your chest
I said this place is full of darkness
You closed your eyes and I could see its beauty on your face
I said the weather never changed
And you whispered to me late at night of rainbows
I said the moon kept waning
You said it would soon grow full
I said the sun seemed dimmer
You gave a long lecture relating to astrophysics and sunspots
I said the jungle was menacing
You described each butterfly that made its home
Among the deep green branches of that land-sea
I said it takes too much effort
You said that it's never been this easy to forget everything we left behind
I said it's so damn lonely
You said we've got each other
I said the weather never changes
And you danced in the rain, lit by the sun, blinded by the rainbows that surrounded you
For me
It was always about the darkness
For you
It was always about the rainbows
The leprechauns
The pots of gold you knew- just knew-
We'd find
Turns out neither of us was wrong and neither of us was right
And it was okay
Because we had each other.

So I wrote this short little poem for my super sad poetry book so sorry for the sadness of it xP
Rain
I think I like the pouring rain
coming down in torrents,
knocking over trees
and blowing around leaves,
better than the rainbow aftertaste
because the rain is how I feel
and I'm not so sure that a rainbow is coming
at the end of all this

Bright and Beautiful
Shimmering, shining
always after rain.
Lifting up sorrowful souls
In the simplest of ways.
All the colors
Red, orange, yellow,
Green, Blue, Purple,
Hold their own in the world.
"Bright days are here,"
They sing.
Enjoy the beauty
Before the next storm.

So, for those of you who don't know, Holi is that one super fun-looking holiday where people end up covered in colorful dust. It's actually on March 12, but St. Patrick's Day comes so close after that we're starting this a week early.
So Holi is a Hindu holiday to celebrate spring, and is also known as the Festival of Colors, so the theme for this will be just simply rainbows.
You can take that any way you'd like. Have fun!
Starts: Today
Ends: March 16, 2017
