On to the second book! This one I have not read, and look forward to diving into it.

Phil J | 116 comments I started. The beginning shifts between three different diaries, and the Kindle edition is not formatted in a way that makes it clear which one you're on.

I have a policy against discussing politics on the internet, but this book is going to make it difficult.

Phil J | 116 comments I'm about 1/3 and starting to wish there was more going on here. There's been a lot of new characters introduced, and some committee meetings, but I'm not clear on where this book is going to go that the first book didn't already cover.

Wow-what an interesting read, especially in light of the current political environment......

Phil J | 116 comments Finished. I go into the politics in my review:

Basically, I thought the political angle was interesting, but the book as a whole was way too talky.

It is hard not to get into current politics while reading this, as so much of the history in this book is almost verbatim.....

However, I find all the Earthseed preaching a bit tedious....kind of takes away what could be a good morality in its own right!

Katy (kathy_h) Don't know if I will get to this one this month -- but I think I will try and read it anyway. Thanks for the heads up on the "talkiness & preachiness."

I was really let down by it, Maggie. The other two Butler books I've read- Kindred and Parable of the Sower- were more focused than this. It's like she forgot to have a plot.

The highlights are the Camp Christian section that kicks in at about the 50% mark and the epilogue. Most of the rest of it is dialogue and meetings. So depending on where you are, it might make sense to push through.
