I actually liked this story better than the previous one. It had been a while since I read the last book in Gerard's Bodyguards series, so I didn't remember very much detail about the hero and heroine in the first book. It took me a while to get up to speed. This time we were more or less starting fresh with the story. It worked well for me.
I really liked this story, especially Abbie and Sam. Her hurt felt so realistic and his remorse cut deep. The op was exciting, brutal and suspenseful.
The pace seemed quicker in this story, too. I liked the last story but Gabe's refusal to get medical treatment drove me nuts.
I'd give this book the edge.

I really like the series and this book was a lot better, angst wise, than the last one. I really did read very much like a standalone, but I did like the set up for Chrystal and Johnny Duane Reed for the next book.
I'm looking forward to the next book too, Anita. Johnny Duane Reed is certainly an interesting character.
I liked this much better, as I was lost in book 1. I like Crystal and Reed so the next should be interesting.
