Fantasy Buddy Reads discussion

Kindle version became available today. I ended up 5th on the waitlist. I'd estimate that puts me 60 days out. If anybody is up for a May-ish read let me know.

I bought the Kindle version so I'll probably be able to join you if life doesn't get in the way.

I would join but I have to finish the Powder Mage trilogy first. I doubt I'll finish in time.

I'm already up to #2 waiting as an update.

I'm already down to #1 in the queue. Apparently this is a fast read.

I'm going to start this in a couple of days when done with The Crippled God.

I'm not gonna be able to start this before May.

I'm almost done. The first 80% is pretty much mystery and intrigue. The last 20% is battle.

I would have rated the first series 4.25, 5 and 4.5. This was a 3.75 that I rounded to a 4. I liked it. It was interesting but there wasn't that have to see what's on the next page anticipation. There's a few new characters I like. I still didn't warm to Vlora.

Sort of a wishy-washy answer but so was the book. In short, worth reading but I wouldn't drop everything to do so.

New Buddy Read starts 1st May for Sins of Empire.

I read this one already and I loved it. Had some nitpicks but I think McClellan has progressed.

Those of us doing the second wave of Powder Mage will use it once we get here :)

I am in the first 25% right now and I love it. The story is as good as the first trilogy - maybe even a bit more! - and the story telling is captivating as it was before! I am having the time of my life!

Glad you're loving it. I liked it.

I'm a bit late to the party but I really enjoyed this one more than Autumn Republic, which is really surprising.

Once again, the biggest complaint is Vlora and female characters in general.

I totally agree. We had a topic called book crushes and somebody made a comment that most female fantasy characters were either princesses or chicks with dicks. I think his characters resemble this.

Hah! :D I hate when they divide them into either "slutty bitches" or "innocent wide-eyed virgins". And I can't help myself but judge a writer for his inexperience because I don't know what else would compel him to write such one-dimensional female characters.

I hope McClellan will change that in the upcoming sequels otherwise I'll just keep relentlessly criticizing him...

Book two Wrath of Empire comes out in March. I'm not sure if anybody is up for it. The bot to end all bots cleaned up the folder and I hate creating and flipping those back to the correct alphabetical order so I just posted it here. I'm not sure anybody read this one beyond the people in this thread who have ratings assigned.

Hmm, I'd like to get in on that, but I need to read Sins of Empire first. I'd like to be totally UTD with his books so I don't fall behind haha.

Yeah I'm just iffy on March because our baby is due mid-March so things will most certainly be pretty hectic for me at that time. haha. We'll see!

I don't plan on reading it opening day. I'll wait for the library to pick it up so mid April could probably work.
