(I received this link in an email.)

At first I didn't want to bother watching this YouTube . It's over 3 minutes long and there was too much noise in the background. But then I turned off the sound and just read the subtitles.

I'm glad I did.

Nina | 6069 comments Back when I was married no one made speeches. Just as well. The day after I was married my father took my new husband and myself to the train station where we were to get on the train headed for Chicago and then transferred to the Milwaukee Road. This was to be my new home/Milwaukee. My mother told me later after my father dropped us off he cried all the way back home.

Nina, that is so touching. It breaks my heart to think about how tough it can be to be separated from loved ones. How far away in time were you away from home after you got to Milwaukee?

message 10: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Milwaukee was my husband's home and at that time he was in his last year at Marquette Engineering University. This was six hundred miles from Kansas City, MO/my home. We were there for nine months and after that we returned to my home where he eventually was hired as an engineer. By this time I was expecting and so we lived for a few months after my son was born with my parents. Thus, there were four generations under the same roof, My son, Tim, his father and mother, my parents and my grandfather/Tim's great grandfather..

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Wow, Nina, 600 miles is a long way! No wonder your dad was crying. He must have been very happy to have you home again, especially with your new son.

Nina | 6069 comments He was happy and he and that son of mine were close buddies until the day he died. It seems you also wrote about fun times with your dad. Weren't we lucky.

My dad was a very quiet man - the idea of dad making a speech never occurred to me.

Nina | 6069 comments Me neither, Linda. I really didn't need speeches. It just wasn't the thing then nor at funerals either.
