Jessica Goodrich If you are interested in human relationships, psychology and the effects of mental illness this book would be a great one for you to read. I was extremely interested in the storyline in this book but I also learned a lot about mental illness.
This story is told in first person narration by the main character Craig. Craig is 15 year old young man who lives in Brooklyn. In this book he tells the story about his struggle with mental illness. Craig struggles with a few different mental illnesses including, an eating disorder and depression which results in suicidal thoughts. His struggle with suicide is the major conflict in the novel. I think this book would be good for a teen to read, because I feel as if most teens struggle with feeling alienated or alone and could benefit from hearing Craig's story. Craig story could be beneficial for anyone to read who struggles with a mental illness as well as anyone who doesn't feel like they fit in. This book tells Craig's story of coping with mental illness, his experience with therapy as well as his experience in a psychiatric ward. It also tells of the story of a girl Noelle who dealt with sexual abuse. The story is one of healing and demonstrates how relationships and interests can help one heal. It teaches the reader how to be happy in any situation life hands you. This book is sad and a bit graphic but I would definitely recommend it.
