All About Books discussion

It's time to nominate your choice for our May 2017 group fiction read - please use this thread to nominate.

Nominations start today and will close on April 6th.

During this time anybody can either nominate or second a book. The 6 books with the most second votes at the end of the 5 day nomination period will go into the poll. Each person can either nominate one book or second one book. There are no limits to the number of seconds a book can receive.

The poll will then run until the 10th April 2017 and the winner will be announced the following day. This will leave about 3 weeks for people to get hold of the book in preparation for the read.

Please only nominate, second or vote for a book you will read with the group if it should win. Please also check that your chosen nomination hasn't been a group read in the past. You can do this by looking at the group bookshelf, contact one of the moderators or post on 'Ask the Moderators' thread

I would like to nominate The Passion by Jeanette Winterson. I want to read it because Pink said it has excellent prose, and I want to try the author. Maybe other people feel as I do.

I would like to second The Passion by Jeanette Winterson. I have a growing interest in books that take place during Napoleonic Wars. My interest began when I read The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. I did not put the author and title of the latter book in link form so others would not think I was seconding one book and then nominating another book. I second Chrissie's nomination.

I nominate Siddhartha by Herrmann Hesse

I'm torn between two, but will nominate The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. I've already read two of the ones nominated and as much as I loved them, neither is a book I am going to reread, although I could join in the discussion anyway.

I am going to nominate The Friendly Air by Elizabeth Cadell.

Ray, I think Heart of Darkness is more of a classic, so perhaps better to suggest for our next classic nominations.

I'd like to nominate The Dry as I heard a discussion about it on the radio the other day and it sounded interesting.

Ok, would anyone like to second any of the books nominated? Remember, we can only go to poll when we have books seconded at least once!

I struggled to decide between a few of them. I was very close to seconding The Association of Small Bombs Vero, but in the end I've decided to second The Dry.
