Dark Rivers of the Heart and Sole Survivor tied on the poll so they are both May Group Reads.

I like Sole Survivor best, but I'll read Dark Rivers of the Heart first :-)

Matthew | 183 comments I don't own this one but have read it a couple times so will keep an eye on this discussion and try to contribute (productively?) if I can. I purchased the movie from Amazon which is pretty good so I may watch that as a refresher lol.

Is the movie worth watching or does it go way off base like Watchers and Intensity ?

I am still reading Dark Rivers, planning to start Sole Survivor within the week.

FYI: For those interested in films adapted from Dean Koontz works, you may enjoy looking at the following discussion thread:

My personal opinion is that Odd Thomas has been the best adaptation, Phantoms would be second in my book.

Matthew | 183 comments Sole Survivor is, overall, good. Because it's a 2 part miniseries made for Fox TV, some of the acting is merely OK, but the story is there. The climax is quite different from the novel, by the way, but I actually liked the movie's finale better than the book's.

What are you reading now if you've already finished Dark Rivers and not reading Sole Survivor? Going to take a break from Dean Koontz until June?

message 15: by Matthew (new)

Matthew | 183 comments I think once I'm done with Dark Rivers (200 pages to go!) i will take a bit of a break from Koontz until Silent Corner. I think I will participate in the Intensity mini-discussion group though. My reading pile has gotten mountainous so I'm playing this all by ear. At the moment, I'm also 3/4 of the way through Stephen King's Bazaar of Bad Dreams story collection. It's fun reading Koontz and King in tandem, btw.

Julia Bridges | 76 comments I'm reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Currently on Book 4 - Wizard and Glass.

What will the group read for June be?

message 17: by Matthew (new)

Matthew | 183 comments Preparing yourself for The Dark Tower movie in August, I'm guessing? Is this your 1st journey towards the Tower, or a refresher course?

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments I have a little more to go in Sole Survivor . I'm not sure if I will participate in the Intensity mini group read as I have three HUGE King books to read this summer plus the scheduled monthly Koontz books.

That'll be a short break from Koontz. The Silent Corner countdown is less than one month :-)

I am currently reading Sole Survivor. I find it interesting that the phrase "Fear Nada"/ "Fear Nothing" appears in chapters five & six. Sole Survivor was published in 1997, Fear Nothing was published in 1998 - an connection in the Dean Koontz Universe.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments Dustin, a wise man once said, "In the Dean Koontz universe, there are no coincidences."

Holy Shit! Reading Sole Survivor & The Silent Corner at the same time, I am once again astonished at the similarities between the two stories, just like when I was reading Dark Rivers of the Heart & The Silent Corner at the same time. You Koontzlanders sure know how to pick the right books to prepare for Dean's newest book - so many connections in The Dean Koontz Universe.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 6122 comments Mod
This book was a much faster going for me than Dark Rivers of the Heart. The phrase "From the Corner of His Eye" kept showing up in the story - I get the feeling that Dean really likes that phrase and was holding out using it for a title until the right story came along. There are also several similarities between Sole Survivor and False Memory.

There are numerous references of Alternate Realities in Sole Survivor.

Awesome, I haven't read it yet but love books with alternate realities and/or time travel! That motivates me to want to read it.

Our minds must operate on the same wavelength/frequency, Julia.

In Sole Survivor, we find Joe Carpenter, grieving from the loss of his family. His mind slips into alternate realities very subtly & typically he bounces back to the origin reality rather quickly. I find myself doing this quite often as well as an escapist.
