Brandie | 15 comments Not exactly new to BC, but haven't been active in a long time.

So, I have a question. Is it acceptable to wild release a book in one of the many Little Free Libraries? Curious because I haven't noticed any mention of them (sorry if there's already a thread on this).

Do the LFLs frown upon it? Doesn't seem like they would because they share the same purpose.

Anyway, just wanted to put that out there!

Xanthi (libertine101) I wouldn't think they would have a problem with it. If I had one near me, I would add a book or two to it.

Hubert | 22 comments Love doing it as it unites both communities. Also gives the books a safe shelter from wind, rain, sun.

message 4: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I do it, too. I have no thought that they might not like it for any reason.

The only thing is, I'd check with the owner before making their LFL an actual OBCZ - I can imagine that an OBCZ might possibly generate even more activty & traffic than the owner would want to see.

Otoh, BC and LFL do have much the same goal, so activity is good! :)

Kristi (midwinter) | 1 comments I get a lot of release alerts for books in my local LFLs, so I never even stopped to think it might not be acceptable. Go for it - LFLs are the new OBCZs :)

Judy (judygreeneyes) | 145 comments I have never had any indication that it is frowned upon. Maybe there's a grouchy LFL owner out there somewhere, but I have not met any. I agree with Kristi, they are the new OBCZ's.

Hey Judy, you are welcome to come on by my new LFL! ;)

A.K.R. Scott I plan to release some at the newly-discovered LFL in my neighborhood. Seems like a natural fit.

message 9: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebsbooks) | 14 comments Hi everyone,
I think it would also depend where the LFL is. There used to be one on Harvard's campus, for example--I'd feel free to bookcross there. On the other hand, my neighbors across the street have one in their yard (and I don't know my neighbors). I released one book there, but have never seen anyone else use that LFL, so...

message 10: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Have you tried to introduce yourself to your neighbors? Maybe they posted the box to try to make new friendships....

message 11: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebsbooks) | 14 comments Very possibly. I'm a natural introvert, however, so I will likely wait until I see them on the porch.

message 12: by Luella (new)

Luella I feel weird about the libraries I want to put and take books out of them but they are in weird places and I don't want to do a drive by lol. I thought of starting one but I don't think my neighbors would like it. I like the idea of putting book crossing books in there though.

Oh man. I do drive-bys all the time! Sometimes even on dead end roads. I figure if the stewards didn't want people to come, they wouldn't put up the book boxes!

I've since put up my own little library and my neighbors love it! And I love when people come visit. A good day is a day when my shelf gets changed up!

Saskia (Smitie) (smitie) | 19 comments I release BC books in LFLs all the time. I do not get a lot of catches from them, but I like to add new books to the LFL and I see that my released books disappear, so they are making someone happy.

I live in a city that is friendly to these I've been thinking about putting one up near my house. Have you had a lot of issues with your Little Library?

message 16: by Luella (new)

Luella I deposited my first book into a LFL today, I've had it a long time but I know I am never going to read it again, I figured it should get a new home.

I got a book in a series I was interested in but it's the third one in the series. No problem though. The library has the other two books so I guess it just pushed this up in my TBR pile. :)

message 17: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I picked up a book released into a LFL, which turned out to be the first release ever for the bookcrosser! I also dropped off a handful of books to try to clear my shelves... but wound up picking up 8 more!

I think LFL + BC = Joy!

message 18: by Chrystyna (new)

Chrystyna (cassandra2020) | 4 comments I release at LFL's all the time. Mostly the Edinburgh ones but also one down in Lancashire.

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Cool.

message 20: by R (new)

R J Royer (rjroyer) | 5 comments I love the idea of lfl but I live out in the middle of nowhere and the nearest neighbor is about five miles away from me so they are not really an option.

message 21: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) In what way? I drive to the lfls around here, and tourist to them when on vacation. Just put yours on the map on the website so people know about it.
