A little torn on this one. I enjoyed the section, don't get me wrong. But it felt a little unfounded. I wish king would have mentioned the riddles and tied them in during an earlier novel in the series. It would have been awesome to have knowledge of Roland's riddling prowess and then see that come into play during his confrontation of Blaine. I did like the idea of riddles being an art form. The ancient Greeks had tremendous respect for the power of memory and it was a huge part of their culture. They had universities dedicated to building memorization techniques. The riddle element reminded me of this and felt like a power Roland was able to employ to stave off death where his prominent skills as a gunslinger could not. I'm also glad that I'm reading the series at this point and not as King was writing them. This cliffhanger he's left us with has me anxiously awaiting the delivery of the next novel that I ordered from our local book store. I can't imaging having to sit on this for six years like early reads must have. Can't wait till Thursday!!

Played out in book 4. No spoilers but I like the way King chose to resolve this standoff. Maybe I need to be a little more patient.

This was my favourite chapter in the whole series so far!! The riddles part was fun and it was cool to see how Eddie's particular personality was for the first time very beneficial to the ka-tet. I LOVED the tie in with The Stand which is one of my overall favourite novels. We also get a better idea of how mid-world is made up.

The bar is set. Hopefully the remaining chapters hold up.

I can't imagine reading this series in real time! There is such a huge gap in time between books 3 and 4, with a direct pickup where we left off.... I found it made book 4 feel a little disjointed. In my mind the end of book 3 and the beginning of book 4 have already blurred together a bit. (Especially considering the rest of book 4 takes us in a completely away from where we start.)

It was interesting how section resolved itself :) Not what I expected anyway.

I also really enjoyed this chapter. (Although part of me wishes it was at the end of the previous book. I can't imagine reading this is real time, and waiting years for this book to come out :S)

This was my favorite part of the series so far too! I really loved it. I am now about halfway through this book. I"m enjoying the whole book, but that first part is still my favorite.

I'm currently rereading the series...even better the second time around! Something I found really creepy about Blaine was the idea of Artificial Intelligence going a bit nutty. You know, like the terminator movies with SkyNet? Being a huge jeopardy fan I remember being in awe with the Watson episodes in which a computer competed with humans. Anyone see those?
As our own world advances and technology becomes even more and more "smart" how do you think this will change the perception of Blaine? How will it read in another 20 years when everyone is in their automatic cars?

Ironically, the riddle part is the best thing in the whole book. it peaks too early. Only enjoyed Flagg at the end and that is ONLY TWO PAGES! King needs better editors.
