What do you think of the story so far?

Ľudmila | 15 comments I understand that Susan's story is probably very important for events in Roland's present but I didn't think it would take whole book. I was excited to read about ka-tet and not about Roland's teenage romance. Hopefully, next chapter will be more relevant. It's better than Gunslinger but still it's slowing me down because it's not what I expected and wanted to read.

Randy This young romance/horse and net counting part of the story is dreadfully boring. Bleh.

2ndHandBookclan | 7 comments I actually loved it. I thought it humanized Roland and helped to fill in a lot of what the world building was missing up to this point. It seemed too ambiguous for me to get attached to up until this point. Now I have a sense of what the environment is like for these characters and the inhabitants of this province divided by two warring factions. Hopefully there will be more of this later on that explains what happened to Roland's father as well as the other two thirds of his early ka tet.

Fair enough! :P I kinda enjoyed it -- it was totally too long -- but I really liked seeing Roland and his teenaged ka-tet out on their first adventure.

I'm not a fan of romance in general, but seeing Roland's world before it had significantly moved on was really, really interesting to me and helped me feel more invested in him. I'm sure the love interest helped, but that was my least favorite part of this one.
