Melanie There is always something interesting in books like these, Audacity is is a fictional book based on true events of Clara in the 1900’s. A young girl that struggles with sexism and fascism. She is a Jewish girl the age of fifteen to eighteen throughout the book, she came to America from Russia. Clara's family was trying to escape the hatred for Jews that had grown, the family was devastated. Yet, Clara found opportunity in this change and was filled with wonders. She mastered three languages, defying her family's religion and learning Russian, then landing in America after getting a job in the shops she went to an American school. This book shows what most immigrant women went through, they had to work long hours and did not get paid much. Some were touched, kept from talking or using the bathroom until lunch time, hours of work could go longer with no extra pay, and along with dangers. No fire escape and they locked doors from the outside. The Audacity shows such passion in a young girl, the whole world seemed to be held on her shoulders as she striked against bosses of shops. This book shows how immigrants came for freedom, yet was locked in rooms or mistreated. Audacity is a powerful and positive book, a good read that should be talked about in school at some time. This book deserves a ten out of ten, would read again. Words seemed to never be repeated when the author wrote descriptions or feeling, and used word to express dim moments but strength was in each word. This book showed determination and perseverance in a young girl, fighting for what she believed in and loved. Helping others and keeping positive, even if it cost everything.
